My daughter is a book worm and a fast reader. She likes Enid Blyton most and has completed the whole series of The Famous Five, The Secret Seven and more. I’d like to expand her scope, particularly on the lookout for fun and inspiring books, can be for either boys or girls. Advanced vocabulary and creative writing would be a bonus. Not those with a dark theme or tragedy though. When she was little, she was scared of even The Big Bad Wolf!

"The name of this book is secret " by Psydomous Bosh.
There are 5 books, 'if you are reading this it is too late', 'this isn't what it looks like' etc.
Really good adventure stories. My 8 year old is loving them.
He also loves Enid Blyton, Roald Dahl etc

I'd like to recommend the Lone Pine series by Malcolm Saville. Mine progressed from Famous Five to them.
The first in the series is Mystery at Witchend and is set during WWII so a little different, but they are very exciting.

Also for FF fan I can recommend Naitabal Mystery series
He's a second hand book seller, but he wrote this series for children which ds loved. They talk a secret language (which he picked up quickly and used!) and have adventures, and there's a rival gang as well! If you email him and ask, he may still have some stock. I think they may be on Amazon too, but if you get them from him, he may well sign them, and your dc can email him, which even ds, who hates writing, thought was very exciting!

Sounds like my DD too. Between 7 and 8 she mainlined all of EB books, Famous 5, Secret 7, Malory Towers and St Clares. After that, series she has really enjoyed include:
Adventure Island series by Helen Moss
The Clifftoppers series by Fleur Hitchcock
The Power of Poppy Pendle series by Natasha Lowe
The Witch School series Em Lynas
Violet mysteries by Harriet Whitehorn.
The Penderwicks series by Jeanne Birdsall

She is just about to start Harry Potter so we will see how that goes.

Thank you all! I've got a long list to work on now.

Of those you have mentioned, she also finished The Worst Witches, EB's Malory Towers and Adventures series, nearly finished Harry Potter...

Books by Kate DiCamillo will stretch and entertain in a magical way.

The miraculous journey of Edward Tulane was brilliant.

Came across Eddie, Ellie and Robot Rob,
Also James Patterson's House of Robots. My son is into robots at the moment, but they are funny and inspiring.

tangletales · 28/03/2021 17:33

I run a website called Tangle Tales (www.tangle-tales.com).

It's a website to promote childrens books to help them understand feelings and experiences they may struggle with and themes such as confidence, anxiety and family dynamics.

There's plenty of books with reviews and further reading on there :)

YesILikeItToo · 28/03/2021 23:11

Fast readers may like a long series - there are 13 volumes in A Series of Unfortunate Events, which my DD really loved.
