Picture books. Until what age?

I’m looking to buy a bunch of new books for DD2 (4 y o, Reception). She likes picture books and is not willing to move to more than couple of sentences per page - each time I try to introduce something with a couple of paragraphs on a page, still wth pictures of course, she declines it. Shall I buy more picture books with a couple of sentences on page for her or some more substantial books in the hope she gets converted to a slightly more complicated plot once she sees new book covers? It’s hard without libraries... My eldest loved having anything read to her but this one is so stubborn!

My 7 and 11 yo ds still love picture books! There are lots of options for introducing more reading in them. Winnie the witch picture books have more writing and the pictures are funny. Richard Scarry books have lots of pictures and words and are informative and funny.
As a teacher I don't think there's a set age to 'move on' to chapter books, just enjoy reading together!

DS aged 5.5 still likes picture books sometimes, I don't think there's any rush!

DD has just turned 4. Wordier picture books she likes are the winne the witch books by Valerie thomas and the Fairytale Hairdresser series. The Winnie ones you can then move onto an early illustrated chapter books about the same character by Laura Owen.

We've also had a lot of success with illustrated fairy tale collections, they have one big colour picture a page but the opposite page is often dense text - but she'll happily accept them.

I've also got some ideas of more challenging picture books to try from here schoolreadinglist.co.uk/reading-lists-for-ks1-school-pupils/suggested-reading-list-reception-pupils-eyfs-age-4-5/ , they have lists for older years too.

My DD is 6yo and this year I’ve started reading chapter books like George’s Marvellous Medicine, My Naughty Little Sister and Kes Gray’s Daisy and the Trouble With series. However, her bookshelf is still full of picture books and she regularly asks for them to be read aloud at bedtime in between chapters of the others, or at other times of the day. She particularly likes Julia Donaldson’s Tabby McTat and The Day The Crayons Quit series.
