My dear friends daughter is in the hospital (not covid) and wants some books to pass time. Any suggestions? She is very mature and responsible for her age so prob something towards older age is better than younger age
Any response is appreciated !

The Song of the Lioness - utterly fantastic, I read it when I was 14.

Speak - dark tones but a good read, also read at a similar age.

@dilbertian Thanks . Poor thing is awaiting to hear if she needs brain surgery. Hoping escaping into a book will get her mind of worrying at least for a short bit

The Song of the Lioness has strong themes of female determination and fighting against the odds (in a fantasy medieval setting with a little young romance) if you think she could do with feeing brave x

Thanks @CorianderLord I appreciate that. I think a bit of girl power inspiration is just what she needs right now

Tillerman series by Cynthia Voigt, starting with Homecoming. My 3 DC (age 11 to 17) and I have all recently enjoyed these books about a family of 4 children, the oldest an independent 13-year-old in the first book. Set mainly in the 1980s (in US) so escapist from that point of view, but full of interesting and relevant/challenging themes.

I enjoyed Daphne du Maurier at that sort of age.

Alice Sebold books, or anything by Joanne Harris. Philip Pullman certainly passes a few hours.
I hope she soon feels better.

Oh, and Jessie Burton...
