DS is an avid reader of encyclopaedias (children's ones!) - he likes both history and natural sciences (lions and tigers!) as well as a bit of space and vehicles. He is a solid reader (happily reads the first few HP to himself).

I'd like to get him a couple of more detailed non-fiction books to read but I am finding it hard to bridge the gap after general knowledge 'kids' non-fiction. I found this one on shackleton's journey which is below his reading level but I liked the focus on one topic in some depth. Any other ideas?

The George series by Stephen Hawking and his daughter Lucy is perfect for science and space-loving primary school children! The books have got highly engaging storylines interspersed with full-colour space photographs and pages of scientific "essays" very accessibly written by top experts in the field.
