This isn't up for discussion so if you don't think so bog off but I've just read it to dd and I don't know who enjoyed it more, her listening or me reading!

OP posts:
2Happy · 08/10/2007 19:45

Noooo - The Snail and the Whale, marvellous!

BuzzOffThatsMyWitch · 08/10/2007 20:25

Hmmmm...I sense some dissension in the ranks. THIS WILL NOT DO!

Who writes 'when mum turned into a monster'? I haven't heard of that one.

pootleflump · 08/10/2007 20:31

Haven't read it for a while but loooooooove it! Funnily enough dd and I were reciting bits of it to each other while doing the dishes earlier.

She won't have Gruffalo (too scary) nor Monkey Puzzle anymore (bored of it I think), but also loves Smartest Giant.

I love Room on the Broom. Utter genius.

Bewilderbeast · 08/10/2007 20:49

we've read it to ds since he was a few weeks old he loves it. Sometimes gets a bit scared when we do the dragon voice though.

DaphneHarvey · 08/10/2007 20:55

[waves white flag because DANCES says it isn't up for discussion] but, actually, ROOM ON THE BROOM is 2nd greatest story ever. Best story ever is COCKATOOS by Quentin Blake. It is, honestly, officially.

P.S. I love the shower for the frog.

Now bogging off. Daphne x.

throckenholt · 08/10/2007 20:55

my lot love them all - I have a soft spot for the snail and the whale myself.

And the new one about Tiddler the fish is good too.

throckenholt · 08/10/2007 20:59

mine nearly deafen me yelling FIRE at the appropriate point.

Must admit I am not so keen on the smartest Giant though.

TheDuchessOfCorpseBride · 08/10/2007 21:07

Indeed it is, OP, indeed it is.

DH prefers Whale & the Snail though.

And Monkey Puzzle is pants.

DaDaDa · 08/10/2007 21:21

Monkey Puzzle isn't so bad for little babies though. And a prominent role for the Dad! For some reason the Daddy Monkey always speaks like Sean Bean: 'Com little Munkay, com com com..'

Skyler · 08/10/2007 21:25

Zagazoo is up there too...(Quentin Blake again. I love Cockatoos too.

ChippyMinton · 08/10/2007 21:27

no no no

Squash & a Squeeze is the best, especially the song.

artichokes · 08/10/2007 21:28

DD is 14 months and LOVES Monkey Puzzle. Would happily have it read to her over and over all day long. She also loves Charlie Cook.

I just asked DH what his fav is and he said "artistically Snail and the Whale but I prefer the narrative of Room on the Broom"... oh God, what has having a baby done to my DH????

harrisey · 08/10/2007 21:29

NONONONONO

Same authors but SNAIL AND THE WHALE!!!!!!!

Every time 'they sang to the sea as they all set sail on the tail of the grey blue humpback whale' makes me CRY

FAB story!

We read a squash and a squeeze and the gruffao tonight, have all of those mentioned above and they are fantastic. Though I think I enjoy reading them as much as dd enjoys listening!

The dvd of the Gruffalo show is great too!

Chipstick · 08/10/2007 21:37

Buzzoff - When mum turned into a monster is written by Joanna Harrison.

As the children do naughty things throughout the day, her hands turn green, she gets monster hair, then grows a green tail etc - when my kids are being 'testing' I tell them mummy is growing a green tail!

She basically explodes and then falls into a heap sobbing

"I used to be to be such a nice person but all your mess and fighting, whinging and yelling has turned me....sob....into....sob....a monster!!"

As I said, my kids love aged 3 and 7 love it.

Oooh will look out for that one Chipstick.
Dd2 loves, Room on a Broom, dd1 prefers The Smartest Giant in Town (cause he looks like a mate of ours in the pics )

Chipstick · 08/10/2007 21:54

Califright its fab isn't it - I've bought it for loads of my friends who have been struggling with terrible twos. I can almost recite it word for word its been read so many times.

dinny · 08/10/2007 21:55

have you read her The Magic Paintbrush?

it is FAB here

dinny · 08/10/2007 21:56

really didn't like Snail And The Whale. or The Gruffalo's Child.

spookykitty · 08/10/2007 21:59

I've got DD1 Room on the Broom, Gruffalo, tiddler and Snail and a Whale for Christmas, can you tell I am so bored of Sharing a Shell and Monkey Puzzle?

Chipstick · 08/10/2007 21:59

Dinny - that book looks lovely - the amamzon reviews are great, will definitely keep an eye out for it thanks.
