Anyone know how to get a Mary Plain book?

On another thread recently people were discussing favourite books we enjoyed as children and someone mentioned Mary Plain by Gwynedd Rae. I loved those books so I went on Amazon to find them for dd1 and struth there appears to be no reprint and all the books are £20-£300! Any ideas?

Have you tried abe books?

(It was me who was mentioning Mary Plain. If you do manage to track any down, try to get the original 50s(ish) hardbacks, not the paperback 70s reprints. The reprints' pictures aren't quite as lovely.)

Are they really out of print?

We have my mum's copies, my dd loves them - some of the stories are so funny. Hope you can track one down at a reasonable price.

Good luck!

Thanks for trying Seeker. I shall have to ask my sister if she still has her copies. What a shame they weren't reprinted, we all seem to love them!

Try on Ebay. I was lucky to have kept a set from when I was a child, but there were a couple of extra ones that I found by checking on Ebay. Good luck! They are fab books.

I agree - loved them when I was a kid. Found that the pre70s publisher was Routledge and have e-mailed them asking why they don't reprint as they are badly wanted - also pointed out that the 70s ones were not v good. Will be interested to see if they bother to reply with more than "we don't hold the copyright".
