Malory towers - where to buy unabridged?

Hiya, I'm in bed after being flat out for a week with what we suspect is covid-19. Today's been my first sat up day and I've unashamedly loved a couple of episodes of Malory towers on iPlayer.

I adored the books as a child, and thought I'd repurchase them as sitting and reading children's stories feels like something I could do. But looking at reviews, the text appears to have been abridged/ edited of late - as far as I can tell not to expurgate racism or something along those lines, but amending slaps etc

For nostalgia reasons I think I'd rather read the text I read when little. Do you know if there's any way to check if the copy you're ordering is edited or not?

Apologies if that's too rambly or makes no sense, I'm between paracetamol doses!

I remember the books fondly and you've just reminded me the series was starting... off to find it on iplayer now!

I can only suggest maybe trawling some second hand online sellers for older editions? I've recently bought my (six month Grin) DS the secret seven books to read together and assume they will have been updated.

Hopefully someone will be along with better advice, but thanks for reminding me and I hope you feel much better very soon

Yes second hand ebay abebooks world of books charity shops when open again. Look for books published before 1980s or even before 1970s if you want to avoid decimalisation clothes changes (jeans replacing shorts for george)!!

George from famous five!! Sorry wrong series!

Yes, I often buy books second hand.

Check the publisher too - Dragon/Grafton weren't edited, even the ones printed in the 80s. I would go for them if you can.

Armada are generally very trigger happy when it comes to editing children's books, though don't know about these titles particularly.

Egmont editions will be edited.

We got them (and St Clares) in charity shops. DD1 has been going through them all - I'm tempted but I don't really fancy my childhood ruined... I remember the disappointment when I got to university and discovered all the lacrosse players were massive upper class bitches - childhood illusions shattered.
