My five year old loves picture books and is not keen on me reading anything else to her. Any recommendations for half way books so more text but still illustrated. I’ll keep reading the picture books but I feel she’s ready for something a bit meatier. I was recommended Jill Tomlinson books but I think we need something in-between to show her she can enjoy a story with more words.

I'd second Claude. My 5yo son also enjoys the Wigglesbottom School books by Pamela Butchart and the Usborne illustrated story anthologies (eg Greek myths - there are lots and other publishers do similar illustrated anthologies of fairy tales, etc).
But it's fine to keep going with picture books as long as they want to. My older son still likes listening to and reading them even though he can read 'proper' fiction of 50k words. I wouldn't worry too much about needing to move on to non-illustrated books.

Paddington's Post - plenty of pictures but also letters in envelopes to read.
Church Mice at Christmas has more complex sentences/vocabulary with beautiful detailed illustrations.
Same for Hubert Horatio Barton Bobton Trent by Lauren Child.

I’ve been reading DD (4) the Naughtiest Unicorn series by Pip Bird. Not great literature, but they are funny and hold her attention. We’ve also read Claude, Wigglesbottom Primary, The Cat and the King by Nick Sharratt, Here Comes Lolo by Niki Daly, and Squishy McFluff (can’t remember the author). I’m going to try The Worst Witch next as I remember it fondly from my childhood.

DD also quite likes those Rainbow Fairy books but i would rather stick my head in a blender than read any more of them aloud! Grin
