Science books

Any suggestions for a 8 year (although very able reader) old girl with an intense interest in science.
We have lots of books about scientists, but she now wants a bit more information about the actual theory. Any books that are maybe semi autobiographical but also explore some of the science in a bit more depth would be perfect. She enjoys non fiction books but all the science ones seem to be aimed at older children.

Have a look at Basher Sciende, and see if there are any topics there that might grab her attention.

Anything here?

I’m wondering if there are any in the ‘My Story’ series which would be the right age. They are fiction books written In the first person by all different authors.

I saw the Marie Curie book today in Edinburgh. The whole set is on my Christmas list now. 😁

  • The way things work - David Macaulay
  • Science timeline wall book
  • See inside your head (it looks younger than 8 but the science is v. up to date)
  • Animal: The Definitive Visual Guide (favourite of my 8 year old even though it is written for adults)
  • incredible cross sections
  • 100 Scientists Who Made History

Thank you! Some brilliant ideas especially on the mighty girls page, I don’t know why I didn’t think to look there. The basher science ones also look fab.

@PinotAndPlaydough have a look at Dara O Briain's books
Beyond the Sky: You and the Universe and Secret Science: The Amazing World Beyond Your Eyes. My boys loved them. Very funny but also loads of information.

I think there is a Horrible Histories off shoot - maybe scary science? But I've not read them.

Hi, I suggest the National Geographic books. They cover a range of topics. Also How it Works compilations - lots of variety. In fact the magazines are worth subscribing to, because they cover a lot of topics in a really interesting way.
