Audio books for children

Dd6 would like her own Echo Dot for Christmas, she enjoys using the children's apps on the kitchen one, and would like to have her own alarm clock so it makes sense to get her one.
I would really like to get her into the habit of listening to audio stories on it, she has ADHD so it would help her concentration and calm her down (hopefully!) she is already read to each night, but it takes a long time for her to fall asleep so audio stories would be a good addition.

I assumed Audible was a subscription where you get unlimited audio books but I downloaded the app last night and realise it is £7.99 per month for one book a month, is that right? I also wanted to use it for myself so thought I'd be better buying books individually but many are £20-30 particularly for adult books, which really shocked me. Is there an alternative audio subscription service I could look at? Or can anyone tell me how I find audio book deals and offers on Amazon? I can't seem to find a deal filter and most are much more expensive than books.

Check out your local library catalogue? Ours has some children's audio books as well.

Check if your local library does BorrowBox. Ours offers this free. It's much like Audible but with less choice and you only get the book for 3 or 4 weeks, but there's still a pretty good selection.

If you do subscribe to Audible, there are various options if you search for discounts - usually first month free, or 3 months half price. There are often discounts, 2 for 1 deals and freebies for members, so you can normally get more than 1 book for the monthly fee. If there are lots of free books that appeal to you, you can download them and then pause your subscription for a bit while you listen to them all. There are also free Audible books only available through Alexa.

It's also worth browsing kindle books on amazon as you sometimes find the audiobook version is available as a cheap add on if you buy the kindle version. I've bought a few 99p kindle books so that I could get the audio for an extra £3 or £4, which is much cheaper than the full Audible price.

Forgot to say, the BBC Sounds App is also worth browsing.

I was going to suggest Storynory.com but those stories are quite short, or have multiple parts that aren’t linked so a phaff to get onto the next one so probably not the best to fall asleep to ... but the stories are great for waking hours!
