I’ve been looking for some chapter books to read for my 7 year old son. The first couple of books I purchase were rabbit and bear which got sent back as it was about eating poo Hmm and football academy series, which was ok but they gradually got worse and I wasn’t comfortable with some of the stuff that was going off, bullying, picking on polish people and talk about a fear of flying, plane crashing down etc Angry

The latest book I read was the deerhound and this was a nice book. I’d like something more along this sort of story, would welcome any suggestions

The timehunters series. There are 12 books; split into 2 sets of 6 so you can start on book 1 or start on book 6 and read in order.

The notebook of doom. A really fun monster series. Not scary; just good fun.

Geronimo Stilton series (there are a million of them but you can get the first 10 in a set and that's loads to read).

Bear Grylls Adventure series there are six, and I can remember Earthquake and Blizzard and I think Jungle off the top of my head. My boys love those!

Captain underpants is always a winner.

Frogspell series. Magic and mayhem and it's great!

My 7yr old had recently enjoyed the Thorfinn the Nicest Viking series, the Bear Grylls kids' adventure books, and the13 story treehouse books.

We're working out way though the Mr Gum series. DS loves them. We got a spin off book from the Wimpy Kid series on world book day which he likes too.

I was trying to remember what now 16 year old DS was reading at the age of 7 - he LOVED those hamster books!

I read a lot of E.Nesbit to him - Five Children and It and The Phoenix and the Carpet and so on.

The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me, Roald Dahl, no violence there. And Esio Trot. Five Children and It.

I second Mr Gum!

Goosebumps? My kids like Diary Of a Wimpy Kid also.

What about the Magic Treehouse series? There are millions of them. They do contain mild peril, but the protagonists are always ok in the end. They're kind of baby historical fiction, so also educational.

I know up thread you mentioned things being killed in Fantastic Mr Fox. I read the linked version to DS when he was 3, and he loved it. So I don't think 7 is too young.

Billy and the mini monsters are good

My son loved Horrid Henry at that age. Any funny books like that went down well. Also the 'my brother's famous bottom' series by Jeremy Strong. And Diary of a wimpy kid series.
He's 8 now and has just read most of Beastquest and also loves the Tom Gates books.
