Hi all,

I'm a 3rd year undergraduate student conducting my dissertation on Enid Blyton.

I would really appreciate you filling out my survey on Enid Blyton. It should only take around 5-10 minutes and all feedback will be extremely helpful!

This is the link to the survey:

Many thanks,
Holly

I enjoyed that

OP - you may find it interesting to read the section on Enid Blyton in Bookworm by Lucy Mangan - I think she encapsulates the appeal of the Blyton books really well.

MollyHuaCha · 03/12/2018 08:50

Filled it in, but 'submit' didn't work.

Seeline · 03/12/2018 09:00

Done. You've not mentioned two of my favourite series: The ....... Of Adventure, and the Cherry Tree Farm/Willow Tree Farm stories.

Hi all,

Thank you so much for your responses!

To NastyCats and mammmamia, thank you for picking up on that! I’ve corrected the titles.

Holly

My daughter was told by school to read Enid Blyton books in the months leading up to her 11+. The language and terminology is getting a little lost now and was useful for the exam.

Conventicle · 03/12/2018 10:34

Have done the survey, OP, but you are misusing the term 'abridged' -- the 'modernised' EB books aren't abridged (which would simply mean they've had chunks of material cut out), they've been re-edited to rephrase some offensive and/or dated language, replace references to corporal punishment with 'scoldings' etc.

mammmamia · 03/12/2018 18:18

Yes agree. They are not abridged. They’re re-written.

mammmamia · 03/12/2018 18:19

Or yes edited as the PP says.

Leeds2 · 03/12/2018 23:29

Done.

Z0la54 · 06/12/2018 10:39

I adore Enid Blyton, she was my childhood. Good luck with your dissertation!

Periperisalt1 · 08/12/2018 21:37

Done! Great survey, brought back memories.

Ilovealexa · 08/12/2018 21:43

Done :)

peoplearepeople · 08/12/2018 21:55

Done. Smile I used to get lost in these books as a child and was so disappointed my child didn't take to them at all. Are they still as popular?

mammmamia · 08/12/2018 22:52

people my children have not taken to them at all either, so disappointed, but I have to accept that they’re very old fashioned now and there are plenty of books my DC love.

Pieceofpurplesky · 08/12/2018 23:11

Done

NotCitrus · 08/12/2018 23:32

Done. Dd is working her way through boxsets of Blyton to my surprise, and they lead to lots of discussion, so all good. Obviously she wants to go to boarding school now, but only when older (she's 6).

IdblowJonSnow · 08/12/2018 23:44

What's the title and main focus of your dissertation? Good luck, sounds interesting.

Flowerqueen120 · 11/12/2018 21:18

Done! good luck !

BestIsWest · 12/12/2018 19:27

Done. My children didn’t get Enid Blyton at all really. Apart from Noddy. They LOVED Noddy.
Good luck.

Amy4s · 17/12/2018 22:32

Done. My daughter’s favourite book at the moment is The Magic Faraway Tree she is just obsessed. Good luck!

Stressie · 08/01/2019 21:37

Good luck holly. An interesting topic for a dissertation. Much more interesting than mine was!

RightOnTheEdge · 08/01/2019 21:48

Done. I absolutely loved The Famous Five when I was young. I read them all so many times.

I tried to read them as an adult and couldn't finish a book. I thought they were bloody awful! Sad Grin
