Non-rhyming first picture books for 3 yr old

Hi all.

My dd will be 3 in December and I would like to get her some more picture books to start reading with her. However, I'm quite keen to get her some books that don't rhyme...like the Julia Donaldson books.

For example she loves the Pip and Posy stories.

Are there any recommendations for non-rhyming first picture books please?

we have this at home, and it has lasted my child over 3 years from when we first got it. the selection use a colour coding system, so your child would be level one (i think red) and then as she grows more confident, level 2 etc all the way up to level 4. they don't rhyme.

Early on my boy enjoyed, among others:
What Do You Do With A Kangaroo? (which doesn’t rhyme despite the title)
This Is Our House
Ox Cart Man (though it always makes me cry a little bit)
Where The Wild Things Are & In The Night Kitchen (which sort of rhymes a bit, but not in a Julia Donaldson de-dum de-dum sort of way)
Stanley’s Stick
All the Oliver Jeffers books, like Stuck, Lost And Found etc.

If you want stories then Shirley Hughes, Allan and Janet Alhberg, The Charlie and Lola books, Judith Kerr's Mog books were always big favourites with my daughter. They are all good introductions for a good solid story.

We already have peepo and baby catalogue which dd loves.
Would mog and shirley hughes be a bit old for her yet?

My son who is 2.5 loves the Alfie series of books by Shirley Hughes. ( he thinks they are about him! )

Agree Oliver Jeffers books are awesome.

My little boy’s other favourites at the moment are Don’t Let the Pigeon drive the Bus (Mo Willems), Unplugged (Steve Antony) There’s A Monster in your Book (Tom Fletcher) and Owl Babies (Martin Waddell)

The ‘Harry the Dirty Dog’ books are popular here.
Non rhyming. Possibly old fashioned for some but I had them read to me as a child so it translates to nostalgia for me.

Gorgeous illustrations.

Also try Quentin Blake books: Mr Magnolia, Mrs Armitage, Patrick, Zagazoo. I can’t remember which my DS liked best though one of his early words was “Artij”. Agree with Oliver Jeffers, Shirley Hughes, try John Burningham too.

Both of mine (2 and 4) love the Percy the park keeper books, by Nick Butterworth.

Jill Murphy books. Whatever Next was a favourite of mine and the Large Family series is very relatable. I also love Oliver Jeffers. My DS is 8 and still loves the day the crayons quit and the day the crayons came back.

‘Moonlight School’ books (there’s 3 I’ve found - Owl Wants To Share At Moonlight School; Mouses First Day At Moonlight School and Cat Learns To Listen At Moonlight School. All 3 are quirky, endearing and beautifully illustrated. DGD 3 loves them.
