Books about parent in hospital?

My husband has just been diagnosed with cancer and needs to go into hospital for an operation shortly, followed by a period of chemo. I’m looking for a story book i can read to my 2-yo that covers the idea of hospital or parents being sick so that he can relate to it.... any ideas??
Thanks!

Have you spoken to any of the Macmillan nurses or in the hospital? I do know there is a book for this, I'll ask someone and get back to you.

Thank you so much! No I hadn’t thought of that- it’s a good idea!

www.littleparachutes.com

I don't know if this is American, but they do have lots of books that may help you.

That's the link to Macmillan, there's a book on the other page called 'big tree is sick' but don't know if 2 to would get the analogy? I know mine wouldn't! Are you getting some support for you as well? It sounds a tough time.

Thank you: found a couple of really useful ones on that first website! Yes.. not sure if sick trees is obvious enough! We’ve got lots of offers of support; by nature I tend to want to try and soldier on and do everything myself but I think i’m going to have to ask for help with this one. X

It’s cancer. You’re going to have tons of unanswered questions. I know I did when I received my diagnosis a few years ago. Macmillian were a lifesaver literally not exaggerating. How old is your child OP? Please accept any forms of practical support and prayers for your family too.

For me personally what helped me was someone who was able to answer questions properly. My social worker told me about benefits and finding a suitable therapist. My best friend made me cups of tea and was essentially a supportive listener too.

She brought me my school work and motivated me. We got some resources from a hospital play specialist which helped me feel better somewhat. My biggest concern was not being able to keep up with my coursework and my busy schedule. No one should face a cancer diagnosis alone.

Thanks: that’s really useful advice. My son will be 3 next month, so it’s an age where he is aware of things, but obviously not able to fully understand the situation. It’s good to know you had so much support- hope that you are all ok now xx
