Maybe one of the shorter Roald Dahl's like George's Marvellous Medicine.

Worst Witch!

I did wonder about Roald Dahl.

Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton is good.

The Sophie books by Dick King-Smith

bookmum08 · 31/08/2018 21:25

The Daisy books by Kes Grey.

Or the obvious one - your user name!
The Naughty Little Sister stories are lovely to read aloud and also a sneaky history lesson - showing the children what it used to be like for children in 'the olden days)!

mynaughtylittlesister · 31/08/2018 21:40

Ha! I hadn't thought about that Bookmum! I used to love My naughty little sister books when I was younger! (my user name came about me being the naughty little sister!)

Mrs Pepperpot, Moomins, the wombles?

The Claude books are great but may be a bit short.

My brothers famous bottom is popular in my house.

A Dragon in Class 4 is great. Quite old, but I can’t imagine it’s dated too badly (though you might have to explain what a “blackboard” is).

My favourite primary school teacher read it to us - he went onto the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, then built a wardrobe round the classroom door and decorated the classroom as Narnia.

INeedNewShoes · 01/09/2018 02:40

Oh I'd forgotten about A Dragon In Class 4. I agree this is a good contender!

Taytotots · 02/09/2018 07:44

The 'How to take your dragon' series by Cressida Cowell is good - sadly not many female characters though in the first one. Roald Dahl but re read it first to check suitable - some of the bits were rider and harsher than I remembered!

I'm sure in Year 1 my daughter was read how to train your dragon. For Yr 1s to read themselves, my son loved the tree house books (13 storey tree house etc).
