Dd is 3 and a half. We love all the Julia Donaldson books, likewise Oliver Jeffers, and classics like We're Going on a Bear Hunt, Guess How Much I Love You etc. Looking for recommendations of other fun and engaging books please.

What're your favourites?

Great thread OP, I'll be watching for recommendations Smile

My dd is also 3 and a half. She absolutely loves the Kipper books by Mick Inkpen, I picked up a set of 10 for £10 and they're all really nice. The Little Bear books by Martin Waddel are also lovely bedtime books. Hugh Shampoo is fun to read, it's by Karen George.

Have you come across 'The large family' books by Jill Murphy yet? I read them to a kid I once babysat for and remembered that I liked them so bought them for dd. I can't stand them now. In my opinion they're just about the parents wanting to get the kids out of the way, not wanting to comfort the baby who is crying for a hug from mummy etc. My dd loves them, I edit them as I'm reading them to her because I find some of the things the parents say come across as really harsh and unkind to the children. On the other hand Peace at Last by Jill Murphy is lovely.

Bear Hug, Ox Cart Man, The Midnight Farm, The Little Red Lighthouse and Curl Up Small.

Not only will I read them again and again, but they still make me cry almost every time.

The Night Kitchen was also one I read over and over when DS was younger - I vividly remember reciting it from memory in an airport check-in queue (while hoping that DP would arrive in time to join us on the flight)!

Definitely agree with the Lynley Dodd books (Hairy McLary et al).

As well as all Julia Donaldson, my preschoolers enjoy:
The Monster at the End of this Book
The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes
Beautiful Oops
How To Catch A Star.

They're all lovely and I've read them loads of times without wanting to scream at the repetition.
