DD loves Jacqueline Wilson and any kind of nearing teenage drama. She also loved One memory of Flora banks. Any other recommendations? She just finished listening to Anne Frank on Audible......like I said anyone sad and a bit morbid! 😂😳

My DD likes Michael Morpurgo books, she too enjoyed Jacqueline Wilson but I think she finds them a bit young now.

Judy bloom books?

What about Enid Blyton malady towers, naughtiest girl and twins at st Clare's? Might seem a bit young now though.

The fault in our stars?

Judy moody books?

Daren Shan are good if she's into vampires

DD loved Cathy Cassidy books at that age. She was Queen of teen at one point.

DD2 is 10 and loved the Rick Riordan Percy Jackson series. She's just finished the Hunger Games trilogy, which she tore through and actually cried when she finished it, because she'd come to the end of the trilogy and had to stop reading it. The Gallagher Girls set is a spy girls series and is billed for 12-16, although Common Sense Media reviews from children and parents suggest anywhere from 9-11 as a good age to read them - DD2 liked them and I didn't see anything to worry about.
DD2 has moved onto the Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz now.

Beetle Boy, Queen and Battle of the Beetles by M. G. Leonard
and the truly awesome Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend.

If she enjoyed Anne Frank and likes a bit of morbid, I really enjoyed Malka by Mirjam Pressler at a similar(ish) age. There was another one that I loved but for the life of me can't remember the name of. I'll post when it comes to me later

Lougle - I think what your dd is reading is a little unusual for a 10y.o. . I have just finished reading the first Hunger Games book and I would never recommend it to a 10 y.o.
Also the Alex Rider series is aimed at teenagers.

OP - take her to the library.
Agree - Warrior Cats are good for.

Anne of Green Gables
Wonder
Fabled Beast Chronicles
A Little White Horse
Dork Diaries

lougle · 16/02/2018 22:15

Today she's an unusual girl and it's what got her reading, so I'll settle for that. She won't read anything that doesn't engage her, and she engaged by fantasy/dystopia/unicorns/horses/dragons, etc., not puppies, makeup, dancing, boarding schools, friendships, etc.

She did the whole Geek Girl/ diary of a wimpy kid/ Tom gates series' last year.

Try Eva Ibbotson for a good bit of mittel-European melodrama...’The Dragonfly Pool’ and ‘The Star of Kazan’ are both good.

rainydogday · 19/02/2018 21:13

Thsnkyou for your replies. We have ordered some Sarah Crossan books, and have put the star of Kazan and Dragonfly pool on the audible wish list!
