My DS adores the Teddy Robinson books (bought after a tip off on here).
Please can anyone suggest anything similar. He is in reception so I am reading them to him (when my DH doesn't beat me to it- we both really enjoy them too!).
Thank you.

My Naughty Little Sister?
Or Paddington. There are some lovely Paddington picture books available, which aren't as "wordy" as the originals.
Sheltie series by Peter Clover (about a Shetland pony).

As a child I adored Teddy Robinson. My other favourite books at the same age were the Ponder and William books - similar in style except William is a little boy and Ponder his panda pyjama case!

No idea if they are still in print!

And what about Galldora the rag doll, and one of my absolute favourites was Gobbolino the Witch’s Cat. Oh, and The Adventures of the Little Wooden Horse (misty-eyed nostalgia now...)

My dad read Teddy Robinson to me when I was little. He also read olga da polga which was about a guinea pig, the faraway tree stories and the wishing chair by Enid Blyton. I remember roaring with laughter at Gumbles and Bottersnikes. I also liked saddle bottom by dick king Smith.

Ooh Ponder and Olga da Polga sound on the money. I will look up other suggestions too. Thank you. I think it is the slightly self satisfied happy go lucky attitude that he likes. Unsure if he would like Naighty Little Sister but I have a lot so will have a go.
Thank you for all suggestions, much appreciated!

Milly Molly Mandy might also suit.

Hmmm, I like Milly Molly Mandy and so does his older sister but I have been wondering if it is the male character of Teddy Robinson which appeals too.
I might have a think again about this. He does have strong females in his life but I think he might like a male lead.

Mary Plain books by Gwyneth Rae? Mary was from the bear pits in Berne, and had a gold medal with a picture of herself on it. She came to live (in London? Maybe unspecified) with the Owl Man (round spectacles).

Have ordered Mary Plain, thank you!

And Ponder also ordered.
All these lovely sounding stories that I never came across even as a very well read five year old (clearly 1980s Beckenham Library was not subscribing to the retro story agenda as rigidly as I now do).
