DD (8) is very excited to be studying ancient Egypt this term. What fiction and non fiction books could I get her to further her interest, please? Thank you.

We’re currently reading horrible histories which includes ancient Egypt.

No books but I saw this while Christmas shopping and spent far too much time wishing there were kids old enough in the family to want it!

The Percy Jackson author does a series based around the egyptian gods that my DS loved at that age.

Would thoroughly recommend this book:

www.amazon.co.uk/Egyptology-Search-Tomb-Osiris-Ology/dp/1840118520/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=egyptology+book&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1515354231&sr=8-1

The whole series is great, we have the Pirateology one too.

I know it's not a book, but The Prince of Egypt is a great film that is really immersive. Could be a really enjoyable watch for your son!

Time Hunters has an Ancient Egypt volume.

Loving this thread! I have an Egypt mad 8 year old daughter too.

We've enjoyed lots of the DK and Usborne factual books from our library. We've also read about Cleopatra and other female pharaohs in 'Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls' and '100 Women who made History'.

On a fiction front - these are good fun:

Violet and the Mummy Mystery (Harriet Whitehorn)
Shrinking Violet and Absolutely Loves Ancient Egypt (Lou Kuenzler)

Egypt also seems to inspire adventure books too - eg 'Usborne Puzzle Pyramid' (we don't have this but an older version from my childhood - no longer in print) and a French one (sorry from local library - can't find it's title).

It's also worth checking out the British Museum webshop. There is a Peter Rabbit book written in Hieroglyphics which looks fun.

Will you report back on what you've enjoyed please?! I now have been tasked with organising an ancient Egypt birthday party for my DD!!

DS read a few of the 'Quest of the Gods' series by Dan Hunter (Usborne) which got him interested in ancient Egyptian mythology. They are a bit Beast Quest-y so not everyone's thing.

Based on the above recommendation (thanks littleme!) we have recently acquired the Egyptology book which looks great but DS hasn't read it yet. (We got the ology book on Greek mythology at the same time, and he is loving that one - currently more into the Greeks than the Egyptians, but I'm sure that will change as he moves further down the list of Rick Riordan books.)

The Usborne 'Look Inside Ancient Egypt' book looks nice too; and check your library - ours stocks loads of Ancient Egypt books, probably most do as it is a frequent topic at school.

Dorling Kindersley publish about 3 or 4 Eyewitness Guides. Ancient Eygpt, pyramid etc

There is a good activity book from Amazon.

We have the same! I bought DD one of the Lottie Lipton books at Christmas. They are a bit like Indiana Jones, but it is a girl explorer called Lottie who has adventures based on Egypt, Rome, etc. She loved it and I've just ordered some more.
