Book about politics/political history for 10 yr old?

It's ds1's new obsession. We have the DK one with the foreword by Andrew Marr, but I'm struggling to find a follow up. He is currently working on a political history of Britain since WW2 (his idea) and relying on Wiki for his info. He is also insisting that he wants to read Alastair Campbell's diaries as I have some of them, but I don't feel they're the best option for him atm .

Any recommendations of books either aimed at children specifically or aimed at adults but accessible to an interested 10 year old who is a strong reader and could dip in and out?

British Politics for Dummies. Although he sounds far from being a dummy, this book would be great because it has straightforward vocabulary, it's funny and unbiased.

DK issued one called Vote! just before the last general election. Had a CD with it too. I haven't read it, but it is in the primary school library where I work and looks like a good option. Not sure if that is the book you already have!
Would he also consider some of the My Story books, written by various different authors? These are fiction, but written from the point of view of someone who was alive at the time. Only one I can remember from WW2 onwards is letters home from evacuees, but there are loads of books in the series.

Maybe the Diary of Anne Frank? Or Boy In The Striped Pyjamas?
