Astrid Lindgren books, or: If DS loves Ronia, what next?

DS (7) just finished Ronia the Robber's daughter and rates it highly.

Which Astrid Lindgren books do I get him next?
I remember reading (and loving) The Brothers Lionheart, and Mio's Kingdom. Will definitely give those to him, but perhaps in a year or two... they are incredibly sad, with very serious topics. Some of the most beautiful children's books available IMO, but they can wait a bit.

Other Astrid Lindgren I just know by title - Pippi Longstocking obviously, Noisy Village, and others, but which ones might best suit a seven year old boy who is wary of being caught with a 'girl book' (but can be bribed into them).

Or any suggestions for books like Ronia, by other authors?

E Nesbit - 5 children and It and The Phoenix and the Carpet.

Or karlson on the roof, but I found him incredibly annoying...

Would Clever Polly and the Stupid Wolf fit the bill?

Thanks, DS has started on Karlsson on the Roof, and there have been lots of giggles heard from the direction of his reading corner...

I have started reading The Neverending Story to him, with the idea that he will take over at some point and finish it himself, he's quite liking it.

The Six Bullerby Children, absolutely awesome!

Just some quick feedback, DS enjoyed Karlsson and eventually read the first Emil book. He says he enjoyed Emil more than Karlsson and if I were to get him any sequels, he'd prefer Emil ones - however the Emil books are really short, he read it in about half an hour, so I won't be buying any more of them.

Haven't been able to find the Bullerby children book. It's either 'not available' or £15+ for a second hand copy. Maybe the library can help. Or we'll try to find it in our other language, for reading to him.

Will look at the other suggested titles, thanks. We've read 5 children and it, may get him the sequel. We have Dragonrider but DS has as yet not made it past the first few pages.

What about How to train Your Dragon series?
Stig of the Dump was a favourite at that age too.
Mr Gum series, and Moomins too.
Dragonrider is probably more like for age 9 I think. DS enjoyed having the Hobbit read to him immensely.

I've never been able to track down any bullerby books either!

DS is not into How to Train your Dragon for some reason. We've read Stig, and The Hobbit (he loved it!), to him already and he has read a couple of Mr Gum. We have a Moomins book lying around somewhere, will get it out, thanks!
