The best new children's books for 2017 - ideas?

Hey book lovers Smile

I’m writing an article based on recent research demonstrating that 1 in 20 children in the UK have never been exposed to a picture book, or had completely read a book themselves - how awful is that?!

So, I’m making an effort to provide other parents and their kids with ideas of what they could read over the summer months, and showing off how wide the variety of different books are available to them.

I’ve got a load of recommendations already, but I’d love to know yours/your kids favourite:

  • Children’s Picture Book,
  • Young Children's Book, or
  • Young Adult’s / Teen’s Book

Ideally I’d love to find out about new releases and hidden gems - everyone knows The Very Hungry Caterpillar - let’s hear ‘em!

Kieran Larwood's Podkin One-Ear is set to be a classic for 9-12 yo, anything by Sally Gardner, Emma Carroll is really good as is Katherine Rundell, so many good writers. Look on the Guardian, Waterstones and Blue Peter websites.

My children are young (5 and 3) so my son has only started reading. Books we like are:

The Paper Dolls (my 3 year old loves this)
Project X Alien Adventures (although a set of reading scheme books, my son loves them and gets excited about the plot).
Superworm (both children like this - I think they had / have it at preschool)

Older books that I still like are

The Crysalids
Z for Zachariah
Carrie's War

Ah, silly me - you're looking for books published in 2017. I didn't read the title properly.

Hi. My children love books as well. Its such a good idea to write an article on the subject and helps other parents explore new reading techniques and new books. We are loving a range of books at the moment but I have just made a Vlog on my You Tube channel about our favourite books. Ill post the link below so you can see which books we are loving at the moment and which books have lasted through the ages. xx

My daughter is about to turn 1 and loves books, she will quite happily sit and flick through the pages by herself looking at the pictures. So much so that I decided to have a go at writing and illustrating a book for her to keep based on her first ever trip to the zoo. After much encouragement from friends and family I have just self-published this book and it's now available to buy online. I would love to hear your thoughts on how best to spread the word about this x

current obsession with The Hounds of Penhallow Hall books by Holly Webb, both published this year. 8 and 9 year old are very upset they have to wait so long for the third book to be published.
