Children are natural storytellers. To celebrate the publication of fantastical picture book Also an Octopus, we're asking you to share the stories your children create.

Also an Octopus is a story about... how to build a story! Every story needs a character, so why not a ukulele-playing octopus who wants to build a spaceship out of glitter and waffles? From award-winning illustrator Benji Davies and author Maggie Tokuda-Hall, Also an Octopus is a funny, warm-hearted tale all about storytelling; the perfect picture book for imaginative readers.

Walker Books have teamed up with Octopus Ukulele to offer Mumsnetters the chance to win a tentacle-tastic prize that will set imaginations soaring! Octopus Ukulele create the best beginner instruments around, perfect for creative play. Their ukuleles come in lots of different colours and we’ve got a gorgeous red one to give away.

For a chance to win a signed copy of Also an Octopus, a limited edition print AND an Octopus Ukulele just tell us: what imaginative worlds do your children dream up? Five runners-up will win a copy of Also an Octopus and a limited edition print.

This discussion is sponsored by Walker Books and will close end of day, Wednesday 1 March

Dd1 said "Armbow" for "Elbow"

Dd2 used to use "Breakbik" for a broken biscuit. Usually in the context of taking an extra one "only a breakbik". Grin

My DS loves role playing and imaginary worlds. Our favourite is when we pretend the living room floor is an ocean full of weird and wonderful creatures. We have to cross the ocean to get to the treasure before the pirates.

They play out scenes from Scooby Doo in the park.

Both my dds are good at writing imaginative stories. As they are both cat obsessed, the stories usually have to include a cat.

My youngest DS used to have his own imaginary world where he was the king and all his toys, trucks, books etc were part of this world.
He used to lay things out on his bedroom floor and would act out little scenes of everyday life in his world.

We have games with DD, 3, who gets her money box, empties it,and the all 1p pieces become "wumpies" who are little insects that have to race down the slide in the garden, and the winners get spent at the shop! :)

My youngest son has an imaginary castle and his own army, and a dragon in his dungeon! Good for him, ha!

At the moment if you ask my four year old to tell you a story it always stars once upon a time there was an alien and his flying saucer, i think its because his bedroom is decorated in a space theme haha.

Other pretend worlds are super hero land, and he loves making a den at the bottom of my bed.

clarabella12 · 01/03/2017 23:26

my daughter has a imaginary friend called shanina.

My 3 year old boy is always 'going to work' - often as a hairdresser, a tesco delivery man or in the chip shop.
