Is the book How to Train your Dragon appropriate to read to a 6 year old?

Or is a bit beyond, he loves the films, just wanting to know if it's too early to start on the book - having never read it?

Depends on the child. I think I read it to my eldest at that age, but my youngest was still into his Horrid Henrys. There's no content that I can recall that would render it unsuitable.

DD has watched the films, finds the second quite scary, but I get the impression that the books are aimed at older children.

There's lots that's really suitable for this age, so I'd leave it myself (DD is 6.9).

Well, my 6 yr old loved it. On about book 5, and he's seven now.

But our 10 yr old neighbour has just borrowed it, so she hadn't read them. If he enjoys them, go for it - totally different to the films tho.

DS2, who's 6, has enjoyed the audio book on long car journeys. In fact, we all have ... esp narrated by the lovely David Tennant.

Our 6 year old loves them, though the 4.5 year old struggles a bit.
