From award-winning author Philip Ardagh and author/illustrator Elissa Elwick, comes a brand-new picture book series! Meet The Little Adventurers – Finnegan, Sprat, Floss and Peanut. Each week they meet in their top-secret shed HQ, ready to share their fun with you.

This week, Sprat can’t seem to find his cat, Shadow, anywhere. And he absolutely has to have a pet – it’s Bring In A Pet Day! So, instead he finds a leaf, draws a face on it and… Ta-Da! Sprat has a pet: Leafy! But can you really have a leaf as a pet?

With a spread packed with activity ideas and facts in every book in the series, The Little Adventurers will encourage hours of immersive play and ignite the imagination of curious adventurers aged 5+ everywhere!

To win a copy of the book, plus a limited edition print, stickers, a poster and your very own Muddy Puddles EcoSplash rain mac, just tell us about your child's most unusual pets (real or imagined!).

The Little Adventurers is out now, available in hardback and paperback from all good booksellers.

This discussion is sponsored by Walker Books and will close on 24 October

My DD 5 years has sea monkeys and always tells me when Mr Skinny Legs comes to visit. Mr Skinny Legs is one of the many spiders scooting around our home. Not bad considering she used to be scared of flys! She also made friends with bees and bluebottles. The bee she calls Buzzy. Upon hearing a very loud motorbike passing by she camly informed me it was only Buzzy. Grin

DS aged 8 still has pet rocks bless him. I think it's a silent cry for a real pet. I think that DD aged 3 just sees her brother as her pet!

We were out hill walking when hubby came across some slow worms and was telling our DC all about them and of course the 'awww' and 'can we keep them' started. So on way home it was a google search and we had to stop at the pet shop to get a tank, bedding and food. They learnt so much looking after these and after watching nature programs on TV they decided they needed to go back to the wild. A few tears setting them free and a couple of goldfish are now living happily in the cleaned out tank.

My kids are pet crazy but their dad is anti pets so they are eager to adopt pretty much anything in the garden as their pets...until perishes! At present we have a snail family we are watching over

Another rock fan here - my son picked up a rock from the gravel car park at nursery. He took it home & keeps it in the conservatory & says it is his pet - who am I to argue?! My only issues arose when LO began taking his pet for walks (i.e throwing it across the room) - I drew a very firm line here, but rock continues to live in the conservatory, albeit a more sedate existence :)

My daughter has cat - not so unusual except for the fact that this one is asthmatic and allergic to nearly everything!

topsy73 · 18/10/2016 09:02

My little boy has a stone which he was trying to describe as 'Special' but as he cannot always say his 'p' s it became known as Cecil the Seal (it also looks like a seal),

We have a budgie who has learnt to mimic the sound of the TV beep when you change channel/volume.

peanutmum111 · 20/10/2016 00:26

Yes, he had 2, (who became more !) stick insects. They were kept in a Vivarium with twigs and leaves. Which were twigs ? and which were insects ? They were good at camouflage.
He sprayed them with water to keep moist and to help the molted skin come off ................ lovely. The noise at night was rather disturbing ....... a bit like jumping leaves and twigs. He slept through it. Yes they were kept in his bedroom. Am I mad ................ yes.

jocstoke · 20/10/2016 11:30

Whenever we go for a walk my son picks up either a stone or a stick as his "pet". They're kept in the boot room and routinely culled!

Croker62 · 20/10/2016 17:05

My daughters strangest pet is a ladybird purse which goes with her everywhere, that she calls Lady Bug.
comes in handy at times for the odd penny.

We had to share the kitchen with 2 ants who my daughter named Antony and Annette, she got rather fond of them until we decided that they would be better living in the garden :-)

clarabella12 · 23/10/2016 21:34

my oldest brought stick insects home from school.

Gill81uk · 23/10/2016 21:57

My daughter has a pet snake calld "Snakey" It is a pink stretchy one that I think came out of a party bag! She carries it round in a little carrier that a plastic cat came in, and likes to line it with sweet wrappers so that Snakey has a comfy bed!

Dessallara · 23/10/2016 21:58

My daughter's real pet is a goldfish. But she also has an imaginary dog! :)
