At 3.30 yesterday afternoon my kids told me their school was participating in WBD. My son was adamant that Kylo Ren was a book character, he ran upstairs to show me the book he has with him in....

"Mummy, I would love to be Mary Poppins" said 9yr old DD. My face turned ashen.... "Mary Poppins? Really? Not one of the famous five?"
"No, definitely Mary Poppins" said DD with a huge smile, she was very please with herself for making a decision. She never makes decisions and gets very very upset at not knowing what to do. It's something we're working hard on!

So here is the literary giant Kylo Ren and Mary Poppins.

Our son has ASD and doesn't like dressing up unfortunately so I did something a bit different to celebrate World Book Day.

"I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book" ~J.K Rowling

I've posted this to celebrate World Book Day - Our eldest is currently learning to read and he is doing really well. There's something about him reading his book to me that is so very magical it sumply melts my heart. I hope his love of reading will only increase as he discovers all the amazing books for him to discover as he gets older.

Smiley, I hear you....my son wouldn't have any truck with it either. He attends a special school and refused to take in a book ("we don't normally do that Mum") and has point blank refused to dress up. He has gone in non uniform and says he will tell anyone who asks about his clothes choice that he is "a writer".

Problem solved.

Btw...has everyone seen the viral photo on FB of the two kids in school uniform whose Dad says he forgot World Book Day so they are going as Page 69 and 165 of the Argos catalogue. The boy is holding a hairdryer and the little girl has a toaster...their faces are just priceless.

Regular poster but have namechanged as shared photos on personal FB as well...

DS is six and loves Harry Potter - we're halfway through the third one now. He was intrigued by the end of the second book, finding out about Lord Voldemort's past, and said he was really interesting as a character. So naturally he chose this as his costume!

He helped me make the robe and cape on the sewing machine, with his foot on top of mine. Then was wonderfully patient whilst I put his face paint on.
