Books for 9yo & 11yo dc

The dc and I still enjoy reading a bedtime story together despite their ages. Can you recommend any books suitable for boys and girls of these ages?
We have read the first few Harry Potter books, all the David Walliams books and Famous Five. I guess all aimed more towards a 9 yo but we enjoy the family time & I'm keen to continue for as long as they will happily listen.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a huge hit at the moment with two of
mine, of similar ages.
They've also really enjoyed having all of the following read to them. I'm really hoping they want to be read to for ages to come, as I still really enjoy it!

The incorrigible children of Ashton place is excellent as a read aloud (my two are the same age & one of each gender). You could also try:

• Young Bond : Charlie Gibson (slightly gorey bits but loved by mine)
• all the classic e nesbits
• Artemis Fowl series (fairies but very high tech ones!)
• wind in the willows/Winnie the pooh (more sophisticated than you assume IMO)
• the roof toppers was a recent hit with mine too

And if they aren't too easily scared, both spider wick chronicles & series of unfortunate events.

Or try Gerald Durrell - my family & other animals.

I'm glad I'm not the only one still reading to an 11 yo! Like you, Arthur I'm also hoping the dc will want me to read to them for a long time to come

If they, and you, like non fiction then I'd recommend A Little History of the World. We all loved it and learned masses, and it covers a huge amount of ground in a very light and accessible way.

I'm going to try that Arthur as my history knowledge is not great!

A friend of mine recommended this book for my daughter (she's 9, almost 10), and she absolutely loved it. I hadn't heard of the author before, but it wasn't too expensive, so I thought why not.
