advice please...book set for 8years old girk

I'd like to buy a boxed book set as a gift for a 7 years old girl, my dgd. She likes to read and is just making her way onto books that have text with occasional pictures/drawings.

I'd thought of Enid Blyton Famous Five or Secret Seven but that might be a bit too old fashioned. Apart from that, I'm stuck. Any guidance gratefully received.

Oops...title should read...8 years old girl.... she is nearly 8.

My DD loves her Roald Dahl box set (bought by a friend at amazing value from The Book People). Or you could buy the Harry Pitter set (some of it is quite advanced though) or a Jacqueline Wilson set, or David Walliams is the right age....

David Walliams or Roald Dahl both great. Most kids also love the diary of a wimpy kid books

David Walliams would be perfect for this age group.

Have a look at these recommended series too - the Robin Stevens books are going down a storm in our school at the moment, (film rights have just been sold), and the Goth Girl series is HUGELY popular,

Second Ottoline and Goth Girl. There seems plenty to grow into.

As well as the stuff mentioned up-thread, she might enjoy the Holly Webb series Animal Ark, or Gwyneth Rees Fairy Xxx series, or her Super Sister series too.

I'd go for Jacqueline Wilson, if she is just starting to get used to longer chapter books. My daughter loves these books, especially Sleepovers!

Famous Five is very popular with 10yo dd and her friends - I don't think you need worry at all about it being old-fashioned. (I've never met a child that really liked Secret Seven though.)

Would recommend Jacqueline Wilson books. I got a Jacqueline Wilson set from TK Maxx for £12.99 and RRP was £40.

The book people have good value sets of all sorts of things!!

Hello, I just finished 2 good books suitable for 8-9 yr old girls that like adventure - Shadow Jumper by J M Forster and The Ride of Doom by Anthony Pardoe. These are more adventurous than Jacqueline Wilson. Both my DDs love her books, but I am always looking for something new and a bit different. Both are very well-written.
