Sam & Dave Dig a Hole by Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen

Sam and Dave are on a mission to find something spectacular. So they dig a hole and they dig and dig and they keep on digging and they find ... nothing! But the day turns out to be pretty spectacular after all! Sam & Dave Dig a Hole perfectly captures the imaginary worlds young children create when they play, turning the simplest of things into the biggest adventures.

Tell us about the imaginary worlds your DC get lost in for a chance to win a Sam & Dave Dig a Hole hamper including a signed copy of Sam & Dave Dig a Hole by Mac Barnett & Jon Klassen, a poster, activities, stickers and a signed, limited edition print for your child’s bedroom. my son has a family of little people who he has made up massive back stories about. Who they like where they went on holiday etc. Its amazing the fun you can have with some little plastic people.

Harry Potter - I could recite those books word for word!

My DC make up so many wild stories, that even I don't understand. They each have an invisible, friend. The 4yos died a few months ago, but came back last week. When I remarked that I thought he had died, I was met with "tricked you, ha ha". Um yes, hilarious!

she plays shops a lot and takes her teddies with her. She can never find a parking space though!

Amelia talks about angels & when she finds any white feathers it is because her angel friend has been playing with her.

My daughter is always talking about her imaginary friends Isabelle, Peppa and Hello Kitty, they go everywhere with her, but Peppa is scared of heights so didn't come on the ferris wheel when we went to the funfair! They like to have sleepovers and her friends always make a mess!!

sweir1 · 17/09/2015 20:33

My eldest pretends he's running his own train line and my youngest pretends he is John Cena or a gymnast like Louis Smith! They are very different.

My son is often lost in a world of the Octonauts...the bedrooms are all labelled as Gup A, B, etc and out of the blue he'll be playing with something else and suddenly shout out 'to the launch bay or sound the octo alert!!

We are often in the midst of some weird & wonderful conversation only half based on reality! I was trying to get little one to get into the car after preschool earlier this week & he was dragging his legs.. I told him Daisy (our cat) had a new hat & if we hurried home, he might be able to see her wearing it. He had many questions about the hat & leapt in the car eager to go home immediately & see the mythical hat. On the drive, we discussed how smart Daisy might look in her new hat. I explained that sometimes, the birds pinch Daisy's hat to use for a nest (probably as revenge for them living in constant fear of attack) so she may not still be wearing it when we arrived home.. sure enough, when we arrived home - the hat was nowhere to be seen - although the birds were notable by their absence. Probably settling into their new hat nest.
I promised my son we could make Daisy a new, fancier hat, which we will do this weekend :)
I sometimes get more into this stuff than my son does.. won't be long before he starts rolling his eyes at me! Until then, I am more than happy to indulge these deliciously nonsensical conversations & enjoy the fruits of our vivid imaginations!

My DS spends half his life with his nose in a comic book, so he switches between Gotham, Metropolis and Manchester :D

TiggersAngel7774 · 21/09/2015 01:24

Hes addicted to minecraft so he makes his own worlds in his head with imaginary friends and talks to them

My little boy loves imaginary play normally involving the Gruffalo. He makes dinner for him, cakes, pizza, drinks. Irons his clothes, makes sure he is settled to sleep in the wardrobe before he goes to bed and also takes him to the shops in his pedal car. The shops are a plastic playhouse with the windows open as a serving hatch.
Ig Gruffalo is not around then I get constant imaginary food items brought to eat, yoghurt and strawberr being some of today's favourites.:)

My 6 year old DD has imagined a land of sweets where everything except children is made of sweets and children get to eat their teachers! We had a long discussion about what happens when a child becomes an adult and how they turn into sweets themselves. We're not sure that this is a good idea because we haven't decided if a Mummy who is made from sweets can carry a baby who isn't or if it would be born a jelly baby!
