"Fascinating" books for 7yo

DS has requested some "fascinating books" for his seventh birthday Grin

When asked what this means he says:

  • Books about dinosaurs
  • Where there is this boy, and he's on a tropical island, and this tropical island, is like, right by the sea!
  • Goblin books
  • Cheese people, where a man cut them up into quarters, and then they ran away, because he wants to cut them up even smaller, and put them on his bread.
  • Some troll books and some pirate books.
Confused

He likes Jeremy Strong and Roald Dahl, and the Magic Treehouse books, and Winnie the Witch. He can read short chapter books.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Another cheese suggestion is Geronimo Stilton series. There are a lot of cheese puns!

re HP- the first two are just about okay, but 3rd onwards, probably quite scary (dementors etc). My son who is about a year younger than yours has stopped me continuing HP2, as he's terrified of the basilisk.

Ah, just seen re b'day, ok, DS is 6mo younger than your DS.

He likes the Ottiline books too, but not sure they fit into any criteria... other than the troll!

Oh that sounds great, emma! The treehouse sounds exactly like the kind of things he dreams up with his friends :)

DS is a bit scaredy. Though unpredictably. He can cope with Doctor Who but he didn't like a pop up book with a goblin in it for ages, and he can't cope at all with implied danger or suspense.

My 7yr old loves his picture dictionary.

We had a 7th birthday in our house last week. How about the 'Sam Silver: Undercover Pirate' series? Plus, if he likes them, there are lots to keep him going!

How adorable, and very specific...

Maybe Nina and the Kung Fu Adventure would please him because it's Indiana-Jones-esque, althoughdoesnt exactly his cheese / tropical island / dinosaur criteria!

David Melling has written a series of goblin books - they are called Puddle Goblins, Shadow Goblins, Tree Goblins etc.
The goblins are all really disgusting in a way that would massively appeal to most 7 year old boys and the plots are very exciting.
