Chapter books for 4 year old girl

PaulineFossil · 21/05/2015 10:22

Dd (4) loves having chapter books read to her but I'm running out of inspiration. Could anyone recommend any she might like please? She likes stories about people rather than animals. Some of the ones she's particularly enjoyed are:
Magic Faraway tree books
Worst Witch books
Princess Mirabelle books
My Naughty little sister
Mrs Pepperpot
Milly Molly Mandy

Thank you!

Pippi Longstocking?
I know you said not animals, but "The owl who was afraid of the dark" makes a lovely bedtime story. The owl in question is very child-like!

BlueChampagne · 21/05/2015 12:55

And the owl parents are very much like human parents!

Dick King-Smith Sophie books (humans and animals)
Ottoline?

Amelia Jane series
Teddy Robinson
Dilly the dinosaur (they act like humans)

PlayingHouse · 21/05/2015 13:41

The wishing chair books (very like the Faraway tree)
Merry Mr Meddle

PlayingHouse · 21/05/2015 13:42

The children of noisy village

theconstantvacuumer · 21/05/2015 13:42

I would second Teddy Robinson.

'Sophie' books by Dick king Smith.

Rescue Princesses?

PaulineFossil · 21/05/2015 20:12

Thank you, everyone. I hadn't come across Ottoline, but it sounds perfect. I adored Dick King Smith as a Child (used to get up at 6 to watch the children's tv he did at the weekends!)and the Owl who was afraid of the dark so have been waiting to read them once, hopefully, she moves on from the princesses...

Mr Majeika is good

BlueChampagne · 22/05/2015 13:07

Other Blyton books, like The Children of Cherry Tree Farm? Or is it hideously dated now?

Otherwise, short stories? Winnie the Witch, a Necklace of Raindrops, Katie Morag?

Sukebind · 23/05/2015 22:05

My Dds love the Mary, Mary books and also liked the Teddy Robinson books by the same author. They like a lot of the same books your Dd has enjoyed. Can also second Dick King-Smith especially the Sophie books. My elder Dd has read the Ottoline books and loved them. My 5 year old loves Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Matilda. There is also an Enid Blyton treasury of Christmas stories which might be one to our aside for December?

Sukebind · 23/05/2015 22:05

Put, not our.

mappemonde · 23/05/2015 22:10

Flat Stanley?
Mary Kate

Strictlyison · 23/05/2015 22:18

I would also say Flat Stanley, they are much loved by boys and girls.

mappemonde · 23/05/2015 22:36

Mary Kate by Helen Morgan, that is!
Paddington
