Who still reads to older children?

I think I'm unusual but interested to know.
I still read to ds who is 12. I stopped reading to his sister when she was about 8 (her choice but that was fine)
Have to say at times it has been a bit tedious but now it is so interesting. I am suggesting books that I "should" have read but never did. So things like The Hobbit, Swallows and Amazons, lots of children's classics. But also rereading and introducing him to things that I love(d). I just get excited about all that we can read together, and trying current books as well.
I do ask him to let me know if he's had enough of it but he assures me he still loves being read to Smile
Anyone else?

This is a lovely article about reading to your children, I think the daughter might have written a book about The Streak as well.

DD1 is only 7, a keen reader but we still read together and I intend to keep reading to her as long as she wants me to. It's such a good way to extend their reading, she often reads ahead of me, and we have lovely conversations about the books we are reading. I am enjoying this stage of reading to her much more than reading picture books.

Still read to my nine year old twins. Really enjoy it and they are not ready to give it up.

We still read to our DSs 10 and 8 every night. They love it and it really helps their vocabulary. We are doing books that the whole family like listening to and its really nice to all snuggle up in DS1s bed. DH gets very annoyed when he's home from work too late and misses an instalment. We've recently done the Weirdstone of Brisingamen, the Princess Bride, His Dark Materials (Golden Compass trilogy) and the Immortal Nichols Flamel. The Wizard of Earthsea is next on the list.

Gosh, I remember the last time I was read to, and I must haven been into my teens, and my sister only 18 months younger. We were camping in a relative's garden for a week; maybe Dad just wanted to escape, but we had a fabulous rendition of The Hobbit (especially Gollum), and I live In hope that he will do the same for my DSs.

I read to mine until they were 12. My grown son (23) now reads to his girlfriend every night - proper books, not children's books. They love it. I would still read aloud to anyone who asked me to, but they don't Sad
