She doesn't read a lot but says she likes adventure stories. Her favourite books have been the David Walliams ones.
Any suggestions please?

Why is Percy Jackson out? My 9yo dd swallowed them whole... Possibly even started them at 8... They are really very good?

The Hetty Feather books went down very well with both my 7 and 10 year old at the time DDs.

My immature 10yo couldn't handle Percy Jackson either. But he coped with Jiggy McCue.

Cat Royale books, My History books, TinTin, Asterix, Jane Blonde, Sprite Sisters, Calvin & Hobbes (I never stop endorsing C+H).

Muddle Earth is good simple adventure story fun.
Family at One End Street is OK even for sensitive children.

...Mr GumTree books.

When Hitler stole White Rabbit by Judith Kerr. Older children's book from the author of the Tiger who came to Tea.
I loved the Chalet School books as a child, school plus adventures, and my daughters loved them too. The first one is The School at the Chalet. Cheap paperbacks on ebay.
Goodnight Mr Tom. Also very good film with John Hurt.

Those Helen Forrester books are excellent. I remember reading them when I was about 11 too. I still have my copies :)

I'd also second the Family From One End Street books, as well as many of her (E Nesbitt) books - such as the Five Children and It series.

The Little House on the Prairie books are lovely - I've just had a re-read of all of mine!

Some other books I also enjoyed at that age:

My Family and Other Animals & The New Noah (both by Gerald Durrell)
Born Free/Living Free/Forever Free (by Joy Adamson)
The Dark Is Rising (Susan Cooper)
The Wolves of Willoughby Chase series (Joan Aiken)
The Cats of Seroster (Robert Westall)
The Snow Spider Trilogy (Jenny Nimmo) - some of her other books are also very good

Books that your daughter would probably love are those by Diana Wynn Jones. There's the Chrestomanci series and then many stand alone books too. They are all really excellent.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. They were for my niece btw.
I bought her Jiggy McCue, Awful Auntie (which she found hysterical coming from me :)) and Wolves of Willoughby Close.
She seemed really happy with them.
Her mum doesn't read books in English as it's not her first language and my db isn't a reader but they would like to encourage her reading.

dd (12) has always been an able, but reluctant reader so I'm happy for her to read books that are fairly unchallenging if it means that she enjoys them and will keep going to the end - she wouldn't read a lot of the above suggestions even though they're great for real bookworms (I love a lot of them and would have read them myself at that age).

She's another David Walliams fan and hopefully some of the books that she has enjoyed over the last year or 2 might suit your niece. These have included quite a few Jacqueline Wilson (particularly Lola Rose and the Bed and Breakfast Star), the Mr Gum series, The London Eye Mystery (Siobhan Dowd), A Series of Unfortunate Events (Lemony Snickett), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again (Frank Cotterrill Boyce), Dear Scarlett (Fleur Hitchcock) and Are you there, God? It's me, Margaret (Judy Blume)
