....who likes Mr Gum, Louis Sachars Marvin Redpost books, Horrid Henry and flat Stanley. I don't really know what else to look at when we go to the library, too much choice though there must be loads. I'd be really grateful if anyone has any recommendations of books that aren't too daunting - thanks

Spydogs books

Ooh, thanks summer - they look right up his street. Are they fairly easy reading?

Beast Quest!

Cows In Action series, and Astrosaurs series, both by Steve Cole.

Anything by Jeremy Strong, such as The One Hundred Mile An Hour Dog, My Brother's Famous Bottom etc. There are loads of them!

Mr Majeika series by Humphrey Carpenter.

Captain Underpants series by Dav Pilkey.

Jiggy McCue series by Michael Lawrence.

Yy to beast quest and captain underpants collections!
My 8 yr old ds really enjoys Roald Dahl he's reading 'Matilda' at the moment but has also read 'George's marvellous medicine' and 'the twits'

Clueing4looks · 12/03/2015 17:32

The timehunters series by Chris Blake.

The disgusting adventures of Fleabag Monkeyface series by Knife and Packer.

My son is a bit older now, but used to love those books where you can choose the ending.

Fabulous! Will check these all out and see what we can pick up at the library. Can't wait till he starts reading Roald Dahl, isabella - "proper" books where you can't wait to read the next chapter. Thanks for the suggestions Wine

The Giggler Treatment
Dinosaur Cove
Space Penguins

If he's into Skylanders, look out for ones by the splendidly-monikered Onk Beakman.

emmaMBC · 13/03/2015 18:07

Have a look at The Grunts in Trouble.

Cakes in Space is a brilliant illustrated novel.

Both are lots of fun & lighthearted.

Pip Street
Captain Underpants

Fortunately the Milk

I just recently bought the Phantom Tollbooth for my son and we are both loving it. it is one that you would read to your son though.

chevronstripes · 13/03/2015 18:34

David Williams is very popular here for reading to 7 year old boy and Alex T Smith Claude and Foxy Tales for reading aloud

TheSteveMilliband · 14/03/2015 15:01

Fabulous - thanks for these suggestions. We picked up a few in the library, and loads more ideas since too. I'd forgotten he likes the mammoth academy series, and when I looked at Roald Dahl, some of them aren't far off the kind of book he's reading now. Thanks to all for the ideas Thanks

Fortunately the milk

DS likes animal stories, and enjoys the Zoe's rescue zoo series. They're for sale as a set through the book people

Claude series

Tom Gates series and Wimpy kid series were DS's choice after Mr Gum. Not exactly highly intellectual but anything that makes him want to read is fine by me.
