Book Recommendations For 3 Year Old Boy

Chips1999 · 28/02/2015 20:52

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some book recommendations for my 3 year old son as he seems to be growing out of some of his old favourites.

His current favourites are:
Mog The Forgetful Cat by Judith Kerr
The Spectacular Tale of Peter Rabbit by Emma Thompson
Monkey Puzzle by Julia Donaldson

I've also tried him out on Slinky Malinki by Lynley Dodd this evening which was a success - I had to read it twice Grin

Any recommendations would be great as I've forgotten what I liked at that age!

Hmm, where to start! Grin

Where The Wild Things Are - Maurice Sendak
Winnie the Pooh
Again - Emily Gravett
Winston was Worried - Pamela Duncan Edwards
Oh no George - Chris Haughton
Lost and Found - Oliver Jeffers

Small child here loved all of the Slinky Malinki ones, and also his Hairy McLairy ones.

Maybe some of the shorter Dahl stories?

Oh and, last ones

The Day Louis Got Eaten - John Fardell
Spaghetti with the Yeti - Charlotte and Adam Guillain

what about No Matter What by Debi Gliori

FishWithABicycle · 28/02/2015 22:16

Pants by Nick Sharratt.
Also its sequel More Pants.

How does a dinosaur say goodnight.

The Night Pirates

It's also a good age for getting into Dr Seuss - "oh the places you'll go" is my favourite (less nonsencey) but there's loads.

So very many to choose from! My DS at that age loved A Squash and a Squeeze and The Smartest Giant in Town, both Julia Donaldson. My nursery class of 3 & 4 yr olds love The Disgusting Sandwich, Aliens love Underpants, Pete the Cat and The Tiger Who Came to Tea amongst many others.

I am a new children's author. If you would like a book about daily routine eg brushing teeth with an adventure by a funny cheeky bean. Give Jolly Quickly The Jumping Bean a go. Available on Amazon and Waterstones. Can buy on eBay for personally signed copy.
Thanks Susan

We also love Spaghetti with the Yeti! There are more in the series that are also very good (Doughnuts for Dragons and Marshmallows for Martians).
We also like the Hairy McLairy ones, Do Not Enter The Monster Zoo, Yuck Said The Yak, Toys in Space and Pumpkin Soup.

Some fabulous new books to look for would be ...

Her Idea by Rilla Alexander (new to UK), is just wonderful for those with brilliant imaginations.

Have you seen Ralfy Rabbit Book Burglar. It is a lot of fun as is This Book Just Ate My Dog.

and ... if you are great with voices and silly sounds try The Book With No Pictures

Bitlost · 12/03/2015 22:16

Check out Jonathan Emmett's books: Callum and the incredible construction kit, the Santa Trap, The Treasure of Captain Claw, Here be monsters...

BebeZeez · 21/03/2015 19:09

ROSIE AND THE BEES this is a lovely little tale written and illustrated by a child, about a lovable spaniel called Rosie and two thoughtful children, and a kind grannie and a grandpa, and some bees. Both my little boy and my little girl loved it. Its very simple and funny too.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 26/03/2015 21:41

Any of the Funny Bones books.

lucyrivens · 29/03/2015 22:55

I got my son The Little Stork and My Given Name and he never stops reading it - and takes it everywhere with him. he likes the fact the story is about him and has his name in it. not cheap but he loves it :)
