Last year we worked with Puffin books to find your top tips for engaging reluctant readers. The response was brilliant and we've created a page to share with some of the best.

To celebrate the paperback publication of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck (on 29 Jan), we want to mobilize all Wimpy Kid fans and engage those reluctant readers further by asking them to share their favourite Wimpy Kid moments.

These can be from any of the 9 books so far, or they can tell us about their favourite characters. We've got ten copies of Hard Luck with exclusive wristbands on offer for the ten runners up and a SIGNED copy of Hard Luck for our favourite post.

Post your children's favourite moments on this thread before 23 February and we'll announce the winners later that week.

Dd (9) is a huge fan. Her favourite part is from Cabin Fever, when they get snowed in and the basement floods which is where Rodrick's room is. So he moves into Greg's room and Greg puts on his dirty underwear by mistake.
(These are dd's words!)

Cailin7 · 02/02/2015 22:01

Dog Days - favourite parts would be when Greg's parents tell him that they got him a phone but they actually got him this cheap lady bug phone and when they bought him and Rodrick a pet fish and Rodrick fish ate Greg's fish

pfcpompeysarah · 02/02/2015 22:03

My son loves the bit where Gregs older brother tricks him into thinking its time to get up for school, he changes the clocks and all sorts and its only when his parents wake up that he realises his mistake and tries to blame Roderick, but he is sneakily pretending to be fast asleep.

Kathderoet · 02/02/2015 22:13

My daughter loves the films and her favourite part was to do with mouldy cheese being eaten? yuck! I am sure she would love the books just as much if not more than the films.

OpiesOldLady · 03/02/2015 16:14

DS2, 10, favourite bit is from Diary of A Wimpy Kid, Cabin Fever.

It's the bit where Greg's mum buys him a baby Alfrendo doll for boys for Christmas and Greg feeds all the veggies he dislikes to him.

kacky · 04/02/2015 12:14

My grandsons tells me his favourite moment from "The Ugly Truth" is when Greg’s mom makes him fold the clothes and finds his mothers underwear and says “For the record, I think it should be illegal for a boy to have to fold his mother's underwear.” He likes this quote because he can relate to this event and how you find your parents underwear, it is totally weird and he gets filled with disgust.

DS aged 8 is a huge fan of the wimpy kid series. He insists that his favourite moment is from the latest book 'the long haul' - when Gregs mum tries to expose him to foreign languages so they watch a Spanish-speaking channel together. The illustration shows her pronouncing 'tengo hambre' as 'TANGO HAMBURGERS'.

Ds was cracking up at this.

Oh, to be 8 again!

( I preferred the part when the pig got
hold of the joke dummy!)

Candyperfumegirl · 05/02/2015 11:43

the exploding cinnamon roll in the long haul

ShatnersBassoon · 06/02/2015 16:03

We have a neverending game of Cheese Touch on the go. The best thing is the children forget I'm in on it so I get a few stealth touches in when they're least expecting it and I know I've got an unhindered escape route Grin

We love Manny washing his hands in the urinal at the pool Grin

Vintagebeads · 07/02/2015 19:11

DS is in Cabin Fever, Greg talking about wearing sweatpants so that Santa won't see him in his pants, and the injustice of the naughtiest kid he knows getting a dirt bike, Like what's that about Grin
Great books wish there were more of them.

zatuns · 07/02/2015 22:06

My girls for a long time have been into fairy /princess books but since its been a breath of fresh air to see them read books that are not covered in fairy dust. They absolutely love Wimpy kid!

sweir123 · 20/02/2015 15:39

My Ds (9) also says that his favourite part in The Long Haul is when Manny speaks fluent Spanish and asks the men to take him to the animal sanctuary.

mummyto2boys01 · 21/02/2015 16:29

My boy has read The Long Haul so many times already, it's definitely his favourite book in the series. At times my boy felt like he was actually in the car on the road trip himeself and there were so many laugh out moments. He loved the funny illustrations in the book too

tarantula · 21/02/2015 16:49

My daughters fav bit in her own words is ... When Greg goes camping but the campsite is flooded so they go to a hotel and Rodrick tells Greg, who is only in his pants , that Holly Hills and her family are staying in the room oposite then when Greg looks through the peephole Rodrick pushes him and locks the door so he is stuck in the corridor until he finds his dad.

PonyMcBony · 21/02/2015 16:57

The dog poo incident rates highly here, along with cheese touch which is played in real life, DD who is 8 mths and not really able to defend herself normally gets left with it.

balloon66 · 21/02/2015 19:51

My son says his favourite part is when the cheese is touched in the playground! He loves all the books.

NelAllan · 22/02/2015 16:33

Ds - 12. From Wimpy Kid 3. Favourite moment when Dad can't unplug the video game so just pulls out all of the cables.

Ds - 9. Also from Wimpy Kid 3. When Roderick brings home a personalised bowl for the new dog with the name of Sweaty!

cathyov · 22/02/2015 20:01

As great dog lovers have to say Dog Days is probably the favourite and makes us really laugh. There are lots of great bits in the book one that comes to mind is the 'no washing ' of hands!

lindat4683 · 22/02/2015 20:16

We capture memories with a glow,
Every book is ours to know
A smile is a treasure That I keep
even when my childs fast asleep.

Carriecakes80 · 22/02/2015 22:18

Has to be the Cheese Touch bit for my lot, they find it hysterical! In fact, they still do it, and we end up with someone in a mood becauseall the kids will chase each other and one will eventually get caught and have a face like thunder because they now have 'The Cheese Touch!" We all love Rowley the best, and the best line has to be "Its got a HAIR in it!" Again, another line thats used in our house almost daily, being used to describe breakfast, their bellybuttons, their drinks, anything really! lol

EmilyMumsnet · 12/03/2015 11:37
