How to Survive Summer Camp. I first read it as a child and revisited it as a teacher - enjoying it just as much 2nd time around! I loved the part where Stella has all her hair cut off due to a misunderstanding with the hairdresser. It was a refreshing read back in the 80's, with such a grumpy protagonist. I am a massive Jacqueline Wilson fan and can't wait till my DDs are old enough to read her books.

The Story of Tracey Beaker is a warm and funny book with quirky, believable characters. The story line seems simple, but with enough twists to keep young readers enthralled. Tracey is delightful...fiesty, fierce and vulnerable. Fantastic!

mjmooseface · 08/12/2014 17:58

How do you even choose?! I read so many when I was younger! I always looked forward to the next book coming out, and I had younger sisters who also loved reading her books so I got to re-read with them, too!

If I had to pick one right now... The Illustrated Mum. It touches on so many important issues and sticks with me even now.

wallers5 · 08/12/2014 18:03

The illustrated Mum brings back memories!

Tykeisagirl · 08/12/2014 18:06

Hetty Feather. I read it to my DD and we saw the stage show in the summer.

Jumpforjoytoday · 08/12/2014 18:12

My 9 year old says 'I don't know what my favourite is because I like so many'. When pressed to choose one of her favourites she thought for a long time before choosing 'Opal Plumstead' because 'it made me laugh in parts' and 'because it taught me new stuff about the Sufragettes and what life was like back then'. .......

MamaMummyMum · 08/12/2014 18:13

My 9 year old daughter Elise says : The Worst Thing About My Sister is my favourite Jacqueline Wilson book because I have really annoying sisters too and Jackie really described Melissa and Marty's emotions very well. I think Marty is a really funny character, reminds me a bit of myself.

mum2eci · 08/12/2014 18:13

I haven't read any myself but my 12 year old daughter read them all and her favourite was Illustated Mum (think because she loves tatoos ??)

lindarumsey · 08/12/2014 18:13

The Mum-Minder, such a lovely book to read with my daughter when she was younger. She then went on to read most of JW's other books!

Tanaqui · 08/12/2014 18:17

The suitcase kid- with the soapy side made from the stepsisters tights!

iwantavuvezela · 08/12/2014 18:28

For my daughter it is Tracy beaker! she absolutely loves these stories. In many ways this is her first foray into the world of fiction that resembles the real world .... Moving away from fairy tales etc. I think she responds to the lesson/moral within each story.

CarolLTacon · 08/12/2014 19:07

My little boy aged 8 loves the Tracy beaker stories , He is adopted and can relate to the stories . We have read them over and over again also we have watched every episode on TV and know them all word for word. My daughter who is 17 used to love the Tracy beaker books and she read them word for word. When she was younger we watched all of the Tracy beakers on TV and have watched them all over and over again. Great story lines that can keep children amused for years Well done Jacqueline Wilson.

boulbyallen · 08/12/2014 19:16

my daughters favourite book is girls under pressure because there is a girl called ellie who has a friend who is starving herself because the year before the girl had the biggest bum in school. think faye relates to the book and her friends

Swerbs · 08/12/2014 19:23

My 11 year old daughter says: "My favorite book is definitely Lily Alone, because there is a great range of descriptive vocabulary, along with surprising twists and an adventurous storyline allthrough the amazing book."

midi1975 · 08/12/2014 19:26

Just love The Illustrated Mum. Marigold, Star and Dolphin are amazing characters and the book covers lots of issues . I think it is essential reading for everyone, young and old.

mave · 08/12/2014 19:26

My 9 year old daughter says her favourite book is the dare game as it was the very first book of Jacqueline's she read, and really 'got into it' and couldn't put it down!! She has been a massive fan ever since!

SpottyTits · 08/12/2014 19:30

I love Lily alone and my sister jodie which about broke my heart! Dd11 loves tjese books and I read each one after her usually in the bath but I find a lot of them so sad as the parents tend to be so incredibly useless!

swooosh · 08/12/2014 19:36

I grew up reading them (I'm 26 now) and every Christmas our parents get me and my sister the old, battered, well thumbed books down from the loft and we have a re-read. I've lost count how many times I've read each one! I can't pick a favourite but my tops are the Girls series, Bed and Breakfast Star, Illustrated Mum and The Suitcase Kid. Now I'm off to hunt them out again Grin

gazzalw · 08/12/2014 19:43

Hetty Feather because it was one of the first Jacqueline Wilson books I read with DD as a bedtime story. Moreover, it's possibly one of the first books I've read to her that I've enjoyed as much as she did!!!! Also, as a Victorian-based story, loved the historical background but that the essential J.W. signature story ingredients weren't lost in translation to yesteryear. And quite by chance the run of the play Hetty Feather took place shortly thereafter which meant that we were lucky enough to see it on stage - don't think we'll ever forget the plot!

kpdchudleigh · 08/12/2014 20:01

I've endured several years separated from my daughter through circumstance, but by sending all the Jacqueline Wilson books as they were released we've kept a connection and my daughter through Jacqueline's words has found a safe place to lose herself when times are difficult. The characters Jacqueline writes deal with issues modern children face and the stories give brilliant coping strategies to young readers.

To pick a favourite is impossible as I have a deep love for all Jacqueline's books which kept us inextricably linked until my daughter and I could once again enjoy time together and a shared love of a great read.

Fleur78 · 08/12/2014 20:13

It has to be Double Act.
it's about twin girls both very different like all children I guess.
It make me remember the relationships I had with my sisters when growing up, and whilst it is sad that they're mother dies it has many funny bits which makes it a thoroughly enjoyable read.

glenka · 08/12/2014 20:16

I think the best are the books about Tracy Beaker. I think they would be helpful to anyone who is going through a similar experience. They are all very well written.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 08/12/2014 20:22

I think Sleepovers is lovely; a great first " big girl book" and very insightful on the themes of friendship and fitting in. The writing about the parents deal with the sister's disability is very subtle and touching.

MissHJ · 08/12/2014 20:28

I loved the Jacqueline Wilson books as a child (am now 22) I still have some in my Nan's loft. I do love quite a few, tracy beaker, candy floss, Lola rose, kiss etc. If I had to pick one it would be the diamond girls. I really related to it with the 4 girls and my mum is a bit like Sue

mrscumberbatch · 08/12/2014 20:33

I don't know any of the new ones, my favourite as a child was always the Suitcase Kid.

I loved the referrals to Sylvanian Families -it made it very real for me. And (Andrea?)the main character was nice but flawed- very normal.

It's stuck with me 20odd years. I hope Dd enjoys it too.
