Books for nearly six year old

Hello, my nearly six year old dd is doing well with her reading and is keen to move on to her first 'chapter' books - just wondering if anyone has any recommendations?

Claude books are great
Roald Dahl such as The Magic Finger

Claude, Lighthouse Keeper in chapter book format, Rainbow Fairies (early reader versions available too now), Julia Donaldson has done some early reader books too like The Wrong Kind of Bark, Colour First Reader (Dogbird, The troublesome Tooth Fairy, Dog on a Broomstick, Happy Mouseday etc), The Witches Dog books, Laura's Star early reader books, Usborne Young Reading Series 1 books.

My 6yo has started reading The Magic Treehouse books by Mary Pope Osbourne. They have chapters that are short and sentences that are written clearly and succinctly for early readers and every book concentrates on time travel to a different time or place so there's lots of factual stuff as well. I think they're great! And he'a really enjoying them too.

I would have a look at the 'Early Reader' series of books. They're the next stage on from reading scheme and have chapters but also colour illustrations and a manageable font size. My advice would be to ease her in gently to chapter books so as not to knock her reading confidence.

Just to add that they do have both Horrid Henry and Rainbow Magic stories in the Early Reader format.

There's a website kiddyzworld which i have recently been on. They have a range of books which seem to be for all aged children at different stages. I would say look for books with illustrations and short chapters so that she can easily adjust to books that have chapters and then later she can begin to reads books that are a bit more difficult.

Reading books from childhood is really good habit for your kid and I also suggest my kids to do so. In my point of view you should think about chapter books like 1) Hatchet, Gary Paulsen 2) Westing Game, Ellen Raskin 3) Bud, not Buddy, Christopher Curtis 4) Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt

Ds (5) is also reading the Magic Tree House series ( there's a set of 10 on the Book People website). The writing is truly awful but the storylines are fab for this age and ds is hooked. He also likes Horrid Henry books and non fiction books. Ds hates Roald Dahl books for some reason and we tried Harry Potter but he was put off by the amount of words per page.
