Could anyone recommend some books for my 13 year old DD who is an able reader? She has recently read 'the light we can not see'.

Sure can ... these are quite recent releases that she may enjoy >>

Cowgirl - adventure

Looking at the Stars dramatic opening, young girl & her family forced to flee their home and country to head for a refugee camp.

Other Brother family based novel, based on friendship & fitting in.

Noble Conflict set in the future, in fact I'd recommend everything by Malorie Blackman.

Rooftoppers I adore this one!

We Were Liars this one is absolutely brilliant, adults should read it too - fantastic writing, gripping story.

I agree with Noble Conflict, Rooftoppers and We Were Liars - all interesting and very good.

Other suggestions:

Maggot Moon by Sally Gardner - dystopian past where the moon landing is not all it seems

Rose Under Fire by Elizabeth Wein - a female pilot is held in Ravensbruck concentration camp

Bog Child by Siobhan Dowd - the IRA hunger strikes

The Memory of Water by Emmi Itaranta - dystopian future where water is scarce

SF: Ursula K Le Guin
20th Century Classics: Grapes of Wrath

DD absolutely loved 'Looking at the Stars', recommended above, she reads a lot, and said it was a real stand-out book for her.

At that age I was beginning to discover The Classics, with help from some beautiful BBC dramatisations. Pride and Prejudice, Vanity Fair, Wives and Daughters...

Many thanks for all your responses! I will recommend all the above mentioned books to her, may start with 'looking at the stars'!

I loved the "clan of the cave bear" books at that age and also Jilly Cooper though I'm not sure that's necessarily something to admit/recommend.

Thanks for the recommendations, fishfingersarnies.
