Hi,

My daughter has just turned 8 and has been given a stack of Jacqueline Wilson books.

I have read the back of them and I am unsure if they are age appropriate or not. Does anyone else's child read them and can help?

Thanks

Yes, mine has loved them since then. But you do have to be careful. If you look on Jacqueline wilson's website each book is graded into a suitable age category - but i think the best thing to do is read them yourself before you give them to your dd! Or look at reviews on amazon.

Some are fab, others I've heard have covered a few very age related topics, can't remember which ones are the worst ones off the top of my head

That is brilliant - thank you for the help. I hadn't realised that they were graded on her website and funnily enough the one that I have read and given to her was in her age range.

Yes, as CocktailQueen says, check out on the website which age group each falls into.
The ones beginning 'Girls' are generally teenage so I'd hold those back for now.

Buried alive, glubslyme are good for this age group. Perhaps lottie project. As she reaches the end of primary school bad girls, cookie, tracy beaker, bed and breakfast stat, illustrated mum should be ok. Girls in love etc are for when she's in yr 7 I would say, same for my sister Jodie. I love JW and grew up in to a happy adult!! But as a parent Now I would them beforehand as they are a quick read. I would also avoid love lessons like the plague. HthSmile

DD is 8, and enjoyed JW's updated take on E Nesbit's Five Children and It - Four Children and It. It's ok for an 8 year old - we read it together when she was 7.

Avoid Queenie - it's quite graphic about the symptoms of TB - lots of coughing up blood etc. Made me queasy.

DD liked Hetty Feather and the sequels, although they are very sad.
