Minecraft handbooks

DS will be six soon and I was thinking of getting him one of these since he's a total minecraft addict and he's starting to read more on his own. I thought they look good because they can dip in and out of it and he can use it in game.

But - for a minecraft "expert" who is constantly watching videos on youtube etc, is the beginner's book too simple? I don't want to get something massively complicated but I think he'll be disappointed if he gets the book and it doesn't tell him anything he doesn't already know. I've had a look on Look Inside on amazon and I'm torn! It does seem to have some little facts he might like and extra information etc but OTOH it does seem quite basic. One of the reviews says that their son likes it because it tells you how to make a rollercoaster which DS would probably like.

Which one would you recommend out of Beginner's, Construction, Combat or Redstone. We have the PS3/Xbox version rather than the PC version.

The beginners one will be too easy.

I'd try another. How does he play in Minecraft. The combat one will be good if he generally plays survival (fights mobs while gathering resources). The construction one will be better if he plays creative.(builds structures)

DD has gradually collected all four books! I'd say the Construction one is really useful and has loads of good ideas for your buildings, so every Minecraft player will be able to get something out of it.

Like Enderwoman says, the Combat one is best for players who prefer Survival mode - is your DS into this yet?

Redstone is quite technical but has some really interesting projects to try out I think - it's the only one I haven't read myself yet.

Yes he does survival and sometimes even turns it onto easy as opposed to peaceful Grin

Looking through the Look Inside of the others, the construction one looks way beyond his skill level and not that detailed (e.g. the house one tells you how to build the shell and then says "Now lay out your rooms and decorate!") He still relies on lego instructions to build lego rather than trying out his own things.

Combat looks good, Redstone I think he'll probably need a basic understanding of circuitry (right?) and he doesn't start school until next year, we're in Germany.
