Young Bond (Charlie Higson), Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins), Game of Thrones (George R R Martin, although this series is technically adult sci-fi, lots of teens read them and find them very addictive).

I Claudius (Robert Graves) - the shenanigans of imperial Rome
Sherlock Holmes

My godson and godaughter are both nearly 15 and are enjoying books by se hinton like the outsiders and rumblefish- it's gang fights etc.

What does he like?
Action/adventure/explosions?
Fantasy with dragons and swords?
Real life soap-style?
What are his favourite authors ATM?

I've just read Divergent, passed on to me by DD, its a YA book, good for a light read with plenty of action.

Christopher Brookmyre writes very good thrillers - they're quite gory but very funny and definitely fit the 'can't put down' for me. (Adult books so include sex/swearing etc, but assume that would be fine for a 15 y/o?)

The Gone series by Michael Grant is YA and excellent, and there's a lot of them so should keep him going for a while. Lots of excellent characters, action, fights, a bit of supernatural and gore but not too much.

GretchenWiener · 22/07/2014 18:21

is that the Cherub thing?

Tbh i think at 15 he should be into adult books

not THAT adult :)

YellowStripe · 22/07/2014 18:31

I'm 47 and thought the Gone series was fantastic!

Booksteensmagazines · 22/07/2014 21:57

Gone series by Michale Grant is good and has many books. Its not Cherub - those are by Robert Muchamore - he's got a new series out called Rock Wars which is Okish.

Noble Conflict by Malorie Blackman

Q&A by Vikas Swarup (book SLumdog Millionaire was based on)

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

DeputyPecksBentBeak · 22/07/2014 22:00

I came to suggest Gone and The Hunger Games.

I've bought, but not read, Maze Runner. Supposed to be quite good. The film is due out later this year

Ds1 is 16 and over the last year or two, from what I can remember, he's enjoyed:
The Gone series
Patrick Ness books, particularly More Than This
The Outsiders
Catcher in the Rye
Huckleberry Finn
Patti Smith Just Kids

and other than that a lot of set texts for gcse!

Have a look at Half Bad by Sally Green - first part of a trilogy which came out earlier this year. Lots of hype surrounding it, film rights already sold ... and I can confirm it's pretty good!

Echo Boy from Matt Haigh is awesome.

The Rig by Joe Ducie is another great adventure novel

I Predict A Riot has recently been released, fast paced.

... and finally Flip by Martyn Bedford is a good page turner.

Roseformeplease · 01/08/2014 18:29

Most 15 year olds I teach (English) are long past "teen" fiction and enjoy adult books. Lee Child?

ShanghaiDiva · 02/08/2014 08:17

Ds is 14 and has enjoyed the following:
Slated trilogy
Fault in our stars
Paper towns
Henderson's boys
Gone series
Cherub series
The fear series - Charlie higson
The outsiders
To kill a mockingbird
War horse

The Aubrey-Maturin series (The Master and Commander series) by Patrick O'Brien are great if he would consider historical fiction
