Meet the Parents is the brilliant new book by Roald Dahl Funny prize winner Peter Bently. Meet the Parents will be enjoyed as much by parents as children, with lots of recognisable family scenarios played out in rhyming text and glorious, vibrant illustrations from Sarah Ogilvie, the artist behind Dogs Don't Do Ballet.

If you fancy getting your hands on a copy and reviewing, apply here. There's also some great downloadable activities on the Meet the Parents activity worksheet. If you've been selected to receive a copy, we'll email you on 7 Jan and don't forget to report back if you're one of the lucky 50.

My little girl really enjoyed the colourful illustrations of this book. We have read it a couple of times since it arrived and she loves looking at the pictures.

My daughter really loves books and I am sure this will be a favourite bed time story.

A few parts even made me chuckle as they are so true :-)

A book to be enjoyed for years to come. Thank you.

DS loved this book. DH does so many of the dad things in the book and DS keeps pointing them out when he reads the book. He also loves the front cover - "but cats don't like peas mummy"

My daughter really enjoys this book and we have read it a few times now. It has lovely colourful pictures with lots of detail in them. We had a bit of a laugh at some if the pages as they are so true to life. Thank you for sending us this lovely book. Grin

I love this book! The illustrations are great, the rhymes are brilliant and the text funny from start to finished. 3 year old DS is also a big fan, he knows he's getting a big tickle at the end and starts getting giddy about half way through knowing it's coming. Thanks very much for the copy.

Me and my daughter love this book. I found myself doing little chuckles with just how often i see myself in these situations. The book is beautifully illustrated and the perfect length for a night time story :)

Thank you for my copy of Meet The Parents. I sat down with my 2 children and we read together. They loved the rhyming & the first time we read, they would guess what came next.

We laughed through some parts simply because they could remember doing the things in the story x And at the end, of course, I HAD to give them tickles. We have since read the book a few more times. I think they are trying to learn it by heart x

Thank you for my copy of this book - it was a big hit in our house. As parents, it was nice to make the point! My children loved it - 6yo giggled lots at the scenarios she recognised and 2yo just loved the pictures.
Lovely book, good gift for parents tired of the hard work!

What a fantastic book, thank you. DD loved it and was soon able to join in with it. Nice illustrations and a lovely theme. I have passed it on to a friend who teachers reception to read with her class.

Brilliant book - read to to the while family at the dinner table. Youngest DS loved it so much we had tired it another three times.

What a delightful book had us and LO in stitches. Lovely illustrations. LO is only 17 months but I can tell this will be a favourite for a good few years.

BiscuitMillionaire · 17/01/2014 16:47

A great idea for a picture book, and amusingly written. It makes DD literally LOL, and some of the images of the trials of being a parent provoke a wry smile from me. Sarah Ogilvie's illustrations are excellent (reminding me a bit of Quentin Blake's style), and both my DCs have enjoyed looking at all the details. DD especially likes the one of the girl poking her foot in her mum's face on the sofa!

Ali1011 · 17/01/2014 19:30

Youngest DD really enjoyed this. It also has a few chuckles for parents too. We've probably all been in that carrying the shopping, then the scooter, then the child place!

CrewElla · 17/01/2014 19:47

My son chooses this book every other night or so and loves the big tickle finish ;-)

My husband and I enjoy the book but some of the rhymes don't scan that well. No worries we make up for it by using funny inflection.

The illustrations are lovely and my son enjoys pointing things out in the pictures; he's two and loves naming things.

'Meet the Parents', I thoroughly enjoyed reading this to my 5 year old son, and he really enjoyed the story.
Wonderful illustrations, and rhyming diction about being parents, of which parents/children can all relate to.

Cohenite · 18/01/2014 17:25

Thank you for my copy of 'Meet the Parents'. I love the illustrations as well as the rhythm of the text. My three year old granddaughter enjoyed it but I think she will love it more when she's a little older.

rupert23 · 19/01/2014 14:02

Thank you for this book i have enjoyed reading it with my son age 6. he was enjoying reading it to me and we laughed as he said the mummies are like me.

Superb book. very well written and now added to the favourites shelf on the family bookcase.Wink many thanks for choosing us.

barricade · 20/01/2014 18:30

Many, many thanks for this bright and cheery picture book.
Though incorporating a common theme, i.e. the relationship between parents and their kids, and/or adults & children in general, the book goes against the grain somewhat and places the focus on parents for a change.
Sarah Ogilvie's colourful illustrations perfectly complement Peter Bently's text. The prose is well-thought out, humorous and poignant. Reading this out aloud in Key Stage 1 provided the impetus for lively discussions, with additional suggestions from pupils as to what our parents are good for.
In conclusion, an enjoyable read.

jameela1 · 22/01/2014 10:13

My daughters (aged 3 and 5) both loved the book! It's colourful, funny and entertaining. They read it many times since receiving and would surely return to it many more times.

jestermarc · 30/01/2014 00:36

Great book - my son (4) keeps looking at the illustrations and then at us, then back to the illustrations then back at us. Not sure i like the look on his face when he does.

Wonderfully lively and colourful book, fun and stimulating to read and listen to alike.
