He loves reading and I can't keep up!

I downloaded all of the Percy Jackson books, but that's it. I'm all out of ideas.

He's read all of the Alex Rider books, he's working his way through all of the Roald Dhal box set and the Michael Morpurgo box set. He's got The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit to read.

He has asked me about the Hunger Games, which I've not read and not knowing much about it, I'm thinking its too old?

Anyone got any recommendations?

My DS enjoyed Matt Haig's Runaway Troll and the Shadow Forest. The Lemony Snickett "Series of Unfortunate Events" and also "Goosebumps" books were also enjoyable (according to him).

DS1 got bored with Charlie Bone, its more to read prior to Harry potter.

Try:

the divide series - enjoyed a lot
the Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series
Gone series possibly (quite graphic though not as much as hunger games which I agree is too old for him. Would also by the way say the boy in the striped pyjamas is too old)
If he likes percy jackson try the other Rick Riordan series Kane Chronicles (percy jackson but with ancient egyptian magicians) and heroes of Olympus

some oldies but goodies like

Mariane dreams
weirdstone of brisingamen
Mrs Frisby and the rats of Nimh
the ghost of Thomas Kemp
The amazing Mr Blunden
Toms Midnight Garden

predator cities/mortal engines might be ok but probably best left another year or two to really get maximum enjoyment out of them.

I would second the Skullduggery Pleasant books by Derek Landy - ds loved them and they are quite long, so plenty to get your teeth into.

He also liked the Curious Benedict Society series and another vote for Psuedonymous Bosch

Artemis fowl only if he doesn't believe in FC

Echoing some of these, ds (also 9) loves Percy JAckson (they're good, and much more child friendly than Hunger Games - I think the themes/emotions of Hunger Games are too much for a 9yo); Ranger's Apprentice series; Charlie Higson's Young Bond (although gender roles are imo as appalling as you'd expect from Bond); HP; Lemony Snickett; and also oldies such as: Swallows & Amazons; Children of Greene Knowe/series; The Dark Is Rising; and Just William!

PS Im not letting ds read Northern Lights trilogy yet as I LOVE them, but think the ideas are too deep for a 9yo to really get. Although I can imagine he'd love the story...

I bought his dark materials (northern light series) for DS1 for Christmas but decided to hold them back. The story is good on its own but I want him to get the most out of it since its an amazing piece of work.
