What books do you think my DD would like? :-)

Hi, my nearly 9 year old daughter loves funny books such as anything by Rhold Dahl, Mog books and Hairy Mclairy. She also likes the Rainbow magic fairy books. She has severe learning difficulties and can't read, but she's just starting to sound out some words. She likes books that have a good story but are easy to understand. For instance, I bought her Tum-tum and nutmeg, but I had to explain what every other word meant, which kind of ruined the flow of the story.
What other books do you think she'd like?

How about books by Oliver Jeffers

We have "Lost and found" and "up and down". They are beautifully illustrated with simple and easy to follow stories.

If she like funny stories, I can recommend any of the Jeremy hardy books such as 'My brother's famous bottom' or 'the 100 mile an hour dog'. DS has giggled his way through these happily.

The Ramona book by Beverley Cleary are good too, but some of the Americanisms need explaining.

Also the Princess Mirror-Belle books by Julia Donaldson are very funny and entertained both my DC. Love potion crisps, anyone?

Not as funny but DS has just read all 6 of the Unicorn School (think Malory Towers for unicorns) books by Linda Chapman and really enjoyed them.

The Geronimo Stilton series went down as very funny here. He's a mouse reporter with a sister who takes no truck.

The Dick King Smith series about Sophie.

There is also a series by Sarah ? called the Battersea Cats and Dogs Home. Each book is the name of a dog or cat, eg Snowy, Coco.

Magic Kitten and Magic Puppy series by Sue Bentley.

Iggy & Me books by Jenny Valentine.

Six dinner Sid by Inga Moore

Bear Snores On by (I think) Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman.

Ooh, and maybe she'd like David Mellings - The kiss that missed, the three wishes. He has prob written others too. They are funny, and they rhyme, so if she likes Hairy McClary they might be a hit.
