Classic children's books - what are your favourites?

Currently reading the classics to DS at bedtime, he's only 19mo so not actually interested in anything more than the rhythm and sound of my voice, which means I want books for me to enjoy. I don't feel right reading him adult books, so want to re (or re-read) some of the classics.

We're currently reading The Hobbit, but have had Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Wizard of Oz and Peter Pan already.

So which are your favourites?

Murder, I swear I'm not stalking you...I feel like I show up on all of your threads. It's making me look cray.

Anyway, what about...

Jack and the Beanstalk
Rumplestiltskin
Elves and the Shoemaker
The Little Prince?

At that age my dc liked books with simple stories, pictures and possibly rhyming.
Hairy MacClary From Donaldson's Dairy, Shirley Hughes's books, Dr Seuss (One Fish Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish is a good starter), and Julia Donaldson's books.

Oh, of the longer chapter books my own favourites were Black Beauty, The Faraway Tree, the Chronicles of Narnia.

Alfafa But I will go mad reading rhymes, plus I'm trying to make him sleep and pictures and rhymes are guaranteed to wake him.

Mummy Haha, you are my favourite stalker :)

Ooh those are good, and in a similar vein I have a massive book of Grimm's Fairy Tales somewhere, should dust that off!

The Faraway Tree! I'd forgotten that!
