What level books for a nearly 7 year old?

DD is doing well with reading and is on what they call "extension" in class. Most of her books at home are the big picture story books that you would probably read to your toddlers at bedtime. I feel I need to buy more books that are a bit of a challenge, whilst still capturing her interest. She took a book out of the local library called "Daisy and the trouble with kittens" and has so far enjoyed reading this. Can anyone recommend any books that might be suitable. Thanks.

My 6 yr old loves the daisy and the trouble with.... Books.
She also loves the rainbow fairies (yawn!), animal ark, shrinking violet, etc.....

We are off to the library to find more shiny, brightly coloured books for her to read.
I just wish my son, 7, was at all interested in books.....only minecraft will inspire him!

I think the Roal Dahl books are all great. If she's into more 'girlie' books, then my DD loved the Rainbow Fairy books. Or you could look at the Enid Blyton books, such as the Faraway Tree and Wishing Chair.

I guess it really depends what kind of stories she likes.

Here's the first in the series.....it feels like there is about 40,000 of them.....they are certainly not great works of literature but definitely support independent reading in girlie girls

Hi BellaVida, it's funny you should mention Enid Blyton, as I'm currently reading her the Wishing Chair Collection book at bedtime. She is getting a bit sad, as we are almost to end of it and is already asking what book will I read next, she absolutely loves this book. Thanks for the Faraway Tree recommendation, I'll get this one lined up for our next bedtime read when we have finished the Wishing Chair.

my daughter enjoys Rainbow Fairies, Magic Molly (big hit at the moment) the Laura's star chapter books (60 page, still have colour pictures), Dick King Smith. Also Anna Hibiscus, Amelia Jane, Naughtiest Girl in the School, Faraway Tree/Enchanted Wood, some mermaid ones, Willow Valley, Bluebell Woods, Winnie the Witch chapter books, Lighthouse Keeper (available as big picture books or as colour illustrated chapter type books), there are lots of Holly Webb ones other than Magic Molly too.
