Sharing Literature With Your Children

I found a really cool list of 10 books to read and share with your kids. The suggested ages are 4-7. They are all classics! It says that it helps stimulate a love of reading at an early age and its enriching life stories. I want to read Stuart Little with my nephew and show him its not just a movie!
Check them out on our blog! enjoychandler.com/t/sharing-literature-with-your-kids/63/2

So, that's a US list, yes?

A lot of 'classics' don't really stand up these days IMO. Winnie the Pooh is definitely one of them.

Richard Scarry - IMO v dated.

But the principle of sharing books-great. It's just that if you think that young children will automatically like books you liked, you're on a hiding to nothing. Let them share what they love with you.

It has to be books that as parents you love and want to share, either classics from your own childhood or new books that are so wonderful you know they will become classics,
WTP and Wind in the Willows are classics that both my children loved, the Moomin books, Cat in The Hat...dozens of favourites.
Neither of them liked Little House on the Prairie, or the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Smile
So I think the shared closeness of reading a book is wonderful and should happen daily. But the lists have to be tailored to the individual and not plodded dutifully through.

Why not just post the list here if you want a debate? Or are you just fishing for links to your blog...
