Inspiring books about failure

Can anyone recommend a book about people who have at some time in their lives failed at things but gone on to achieve success in other ways?
I have an 11 year old dd who won't engage in new activities and is hugely under confident in case she can't do something.
Thanks.

Well I think I'd advise caution, but I'd suggest an autobiography of someone like Janet St Porter (but she does have a couple of late abortions, unfortunately...might not be so good for an 11 yr old).
I'm trying to think of another one but can't off the top of my head.
Is there something she is interested in - a person who is successful who may have written a memoir?

Dr Seuss' 'Oh the places you'll go' may be too young for your DD, but I love it - and I'm 30!

Bradley Wiggins autobiography is fantastic.

Particularly in light of his current position in the Giro De Italia

Not a book,& possibly a bit simplistic, but I always like the Disney film 'meet the Robinsons'

Thanks very much for your suggestions, I shall take a peek at them all.

what about something like Jessica Ennis's book? I haven't read it but either hers or Steve Redgrave's would be inspiring about battling against the odds or something I would think. Most sports people have been up against personal battles (esp Steve's diabetes) or injury that they could have let stop them training and so on but not given up

Second Periwinkle- how about Ellen McArthur's book?

The story of Robert the Bruce and the Spider?

How about The Horse Whisperer by Nicholas Evans? The teenage heroine has to have her leg amputated after a riding accident and says she will never ride again but overcomes her fears. It's a film too.
