Xmas prez ideas for book-loving 6yr old?

Dear All,

My Year 1 son is MAD about books and quite a good reader. While all his friends asked Father Christmas for computer games, he asked for books.

I'd like to find maybe a special boxed set of books to give him, or maybe just a few really good books.

He has got a couple of the Early Reader Horrid Henry ones out of the library and is loving them.

Has anyone got any suggestions for something lovely I can give him that will fuel his love for books?

Our highly esteemed Y2 teacher and as was literacy co ordinator positively encourages me to buy horrid henry books for the Y2 "Santa presents" Just ordered a set of 30 horrid henrys for £25 - with free delivery from the book people! Seems like a good plan to me!

I don't know if your son is into Robin Hood but I remember loving those stories as a child and my children like them too so I just bought this one www.amazon.co.uk/Adventures-Robin-Hood-Classic-Starts/dp/140271257X and it has just arrived. It looks great. It's actually far too old for DS3 so I'm putting it away for when he's 6ish. Probably one to read with him or to him rather than for him to read alone as it's quite involved language (DD6 could get through it but with effort).

I have just bought as a present for my nephew, a boxed set of "little tim" books by edward ardizzone, the set includes a cd of the stories read by stephen fry. I was v excited to find them as they are lovely stories with pictures which capture the spirit perfectly and they've been out of print for ages. Ds1 and dd2 both love them. They are quite pricey. For something a bit less expensive, try barefoot books, who have lovely illustrated one eg Arthur of albion

MY 6 year old son loves factual book so the us borne lift the flap books go down well - see inside london, see underground etc
